If you're willing to help me get started in modding you got my aid for the future. We seem to like the same type of games, so

I'm not daft or dumb, I just haven't modded Total War before. I used to be a web developer, doing scripting and database programming, among other things so I'm into coding and all that. Now I'm retired at the age of 35 so I basically have all the time in the world.

    You game?

Dave has retired from modding but there is hope i myself have spent many many joyfull(and frustrating at times) hours modding all you will need to know and 99% of the tools you will ever need can be found in the mod workshop section of the med2 forums

Heroes Hordes & beyond The official submod of KGCM (click the sig)

@Wintermist a good way to learn more about how to mod game, is checking the code from an already existing mod, in example I usually spend more time exploring KGCM and HHB file than playing it, because well, its my favorite mod so far and because both Dave and SF implemented a nice file structure, have clean coding and scripting and basically it is so easy to understand what they are doing, scripts are almost all commented so you can get quick an idea of what they are doing with it. I'm also software developer and I'd whish I have more time to join a modding team and all but I'm not as lucky as you

Hold on then, lets just check Dave's current playlist.

-ETW: (with patch1.6) finally I got the epic game I paid for, thank you CA, about time too.
-Warcraft III: yes! still the best RTS game ever made along with the most hardcore multiplayer
-Mass Effect: All PC gamers should get this RPG game, its just so god damn awesome.
-Mass Effect 2: Good improvements on the first game made yes, but many good things also removed and it's no where near as good as the first game overall.

NTW: Soul Firez has convinced me to buy this game for my birthday next month. So I'll be looking forward to playing any of you KGCM'ers if your up for a good ol war hehe.

You don't have to be a highly intelligent person to make mods, but of course the more you've got of it helps. Modding requires you to be a hard worker though, if you are working on a major mod like me or Soul Firez did. Also it has to be something you enjoy doing because you will be spending a lot of your time on it. I continued to support my mod and it's forum for over 2 years. Thats a very big commitment to make to your fanbase but it's worth it if you want your mod to continue to floorish. I have been a little more selfish in recent months though and have been catching up on all the great games I missed due to modding commitments.

Fortunately for me Soul Firez has carried the community on his shoulders very well with his excellent Hordes, Heroes, and beyond mod. Therefore I am not really missed here because although I am the guy that started this whole project off. He is a better guy than me now to continue any further refinements or additions to KGCM. I took this mod up to a point where I could stop work on it and be very happy with how I left it. As far as I am still aware there has not been 1 new bug found since I've been away for many months. Only people having trouble getting the mod to install correctly. That's how mod's should be done ideally, they should be left finished and bug free.

As for what I'm doing now, I am retired from modding yes. But sooner or later I am going to reinstall M2TW again because it's one of my favourite games. All I am doing is having a break from it, but when I start playing M2TW again you can be sure I will be modding also.

I see, well I hope you do come back! Because KGC is definately the mod I enjoy the most. Why I want to learn is so that I can make the very ultimate mod (according to what I like) myself, or in a team of course.

Hehe, and as to gaming, currently installed:
    Mass Effect
    Mass Effect 2
    Rome: Total War
    Empire: Total War
    Medieval II: Total War
    Napoleon: Total War
    Command & Conquer 3 + Kane's Wrath (C&C4 really ruined it)
Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance (SupCom2 was not as great)
Heroes of Might and Magic V: Tribes of the East (Including the all campaigns mod)
    Dragon Age
Alien vs Predator (Yeah it WAS fun, but not lasting)
Homeworld 2 (Complex mod, never going to uninstall that)
    Defense Grid: The Awakening
Nexus - The Jupiter Incident (Still fun!)
Dawn of War 2 + Chaos Rising
    King Arthur the Roleplaying Wargame
    Earth 2160
    Universe at War
    The Settlers 7

Phew, kept on going there. If you liked ETW, you will LOVE Napoleon TW. It's so refined and fun! I wish they would make a new Medieval or Rome using that engine. But so far it's M2TW that keeps me, I'm really a fan of the swords and shields era, as soon as gunpowder enters the fray I feel it's time to start over lol.

Good games list, I also own Dragon Age and another Bioware classic Knights of the Old Republic. But I don't play Dragon Age anymore mate because I found it way too easy since my first playthrough. Dragon Age Awakening sounds like it has the same problem, which is why I won't be buying it sadly. Playing ME1 with a new character on an Insanity run is much harder and its also more fun in my humble opinion

And yes as for the Total War series, I think most of us would agree, bring on RTW2 next!!!

Dragon age ah (coughs) as a long time player and modder of Never winter nights dragon age was a glossy rip of there own game i mean Never winter was ment for online and with all the tools to make endless worlds for all to enjoy supplied with the game.(not as flash but a much deeper game)It was a love of this mod i found called KGCM that pulled me from a long standing love and support of an online comunity for NWN2.

Agree with dave on mass effect truely epic game but was left a little cold from number2 had its moments but didnt grab me as much (still worth a purchase price though .)

Glad i talked dave into nappy as you said if he liked ETW he will love NTW maybe i can convince him to help me in a modding venture with it lol i am as we speak pooring hours a day into trying to figure out this damn impossible map system (results so far alot of crashes).

Glad to hear it! It will be a mod you CAN possibly play rather more fast than other more grand campaigns, and I guess, if one can make the AI behave the way I'm hoping, even last a long time really challenging the player. Then again, I don't really know what can be done with the CAI.
