I downloaded 1.1 from a mirror and placed it in my Rome: Total War. The game takes forever to load, having to wait at least ten or fifteen minutes to even get the main menu. It extremely sluggish, but I can start a campaign and last a few turns at an excruciatingly slow pace. But as soon as I have a battle, the game either crashes on the battle map or right afterward. Please help?

1.2 is the latest stable released version of EB, you want to get that. Apply the fixes (see the link in my signature) afterwards.
This includes a fix for pre battle crashes. If you wait at least 30 seconds after the battle results appeared, you will get across most post-battle crashes. On what occasions do the in-battle crashes appear? Are they linked to cutscenes?

Please be aware that the 1.2 patch is not save-game compatible, you will afterwards have to start a new campaign.
