    Default Retinue

    Hello

Just wondering if retinues pass on to the next son or if you can hand it out when no one is using them (similar to the title system in Medieval I). Im thinking about retinues such as "Prince of Dol Amroth", "Captain-General of White Tower", "Second Marshall of the Mark" and so forth.

I am fairly certain that you can, although I have not tried it...put your generals in the same stack then drag a retinue item down to the general that you want to receive it. But as glassakias stated you should have asked in the questions thread, not opened a new one.

You can pass most of the retinues from a character/general to another.

I have been playing Total War games since the original R:TW, and I never knew you could transfer retinue between generals. I am simultaneously overjoyed and ridiculously annoyed reading this.

What other small features of this series have I simply not picked up on yet?

Side note: I really wish everyone didn't insist on having all questions asked in the questions thread. While on the one hand, it keeps clutter off the main page, I'd have never found this if it was buried in another 100+ page thread.
Gondor has no king... Gondor needs no king.

Then that's one more thing you probably haven't picked up yet: you can use the search button.

I respectfully disagree. I find it a little irksome when the first couple pages are filled with closed threads all titled with variations of quick question, noob question, one question; most of these questions are already answered in older threads of their own, the faq or even the game manual. I would rather have one post get buried in the ask questions thread than an entire viable discussion get snowed over for "Wher are my olifants at?!!!" threads.
Sorry about the off topic discussion retinue fans. Have a good day.

There's a limit of 8 per general. If they already have 8 then it won't work unless you make room - by moving unwanted ones to another general. As said: not all are transferable. There's also a cheat to remove retinue: "remove_trait" (I think) but you'll need to know the internal name for the retinue.

I agree. That thread has it's place but is intended for single-post answers, not discussion. This question could have been asked there but I'm glad that it wasn't; I wouldn't have learnt about that thread linked above otherwise.

    It's actually remove_ancillary.
With remove_trait you remove traits. (obviously)

You should automatically get them back, eventually. If you want to force the issue then transfer them to someone else when he's approaching death (80+ ?). I don't know if those particular ones are transferable; the Royal Academy site tells you which ones are.

EDIT: just had a quick look myself: the Elven rings and "Guardian of Wisdom" are; "Leader of the White Council" is not.
