    Default battle-model

    hi all,

Im trying to give one of my generals the fountain guard battle model. So i add the line battle_model fountain_guard in descr_strat and it works but he has a spear instead of a sword. And there is no way I can change that. So i go to battle_modelsdb and create a new line just for my general

I copied the model lines from the fountain guard and the weapon lines from faramirs model. And I get an error at start up. What am I doing wrong? Or doesn't the fountain guard model have a sword? If that's the case what do I have to do, to get a fountain guard with sword?

    thx in forward

At the top of modeldb there is a number (around the thousand). This is the number of entries, you have to add one to that number.

If this isn't it I really don't know.

I think you have a mistake and it should look like this:

You need also to increase the serial by one.

Try this and see if you get a CTD at start.

Edit2: Is it possible that I also have to change or add things to EDU? I didn't think that would have to do anything with the battle model of a general but just to be sure.

Yeah you have to change the 1166

I don't think you screwed anything up, but the fountain guard model doesn't have a sword to use with the sword animation you gave them. You'll have to edit the model file itself...

But if he does this it will have to be for private use since KK won't allow any editing of his units.

It is not for a mod just for myself so thats no problem.

concerning milkshape : I have trail milkshape but I dont know where the battle_models of the fountain guard are and Don't I need some other stuff to get it to work? the modding workshop is somewhat vague about this I dont know what I exactly need besides milkshape program to edit the models.

Just look in modeldb, it shows the exact path to the models and everything.

As for the rest: Just look in the mod workshop.

oh ok thx for the info. How do I edit models? Just adding a sword to a model should be easy I think but I have to know what I need to achieve this.

Its still takes time to learn and master. And in some ways it can be as difficult as skinning and UV-mapping.

He doesn't need to model he just need to follow the steps to merge a gondorian sword to the fountain guard model.

Well you open the fountain guard model and remove the spear, then you open the gondor swordsmen model and remove everything but the sword.
Save both with names you can remember.
Then start the mesh2ms3d converter and merge the two files.
Convert the new model back to mesh, create a new modeldb entry with this model, the fountain guard main texture and gondor swordsmen attachment texture.

(it might get more complicated if the fountain guard cape is on the attachment texture)

You need milkshape and photoshop/GIMP/anything else that reads .dds.
And tools you can find in the mod workshop - texture to dds converter and mesh2ms3d

If you don't understand it just search the mod workshop, there's plenty of tutorials there.

(Gosh it's hard browsing a forum without a mouse)

    First you need Milkshape 1.8.4

    Then you'll need a guide http://www.twcenter.net/forums/downl...o=file&id=1672
go to the part about the paladin where he talks about merging models.

And you will need this to be able to edit the models http://www.twcenter.net/forums/downl...o=file&id=1276

You'll also need to do something about the sword texture but I can't give you much help with that.

edit: axnsan was faster, you can't give rep till you have 50 posts.

thx for the link but what do you mean with : you have to do something about the sword texture? you mean I have to alter it so it fits the fountain guard?

You only have to mess with the texture IF the cape is on the attachment texture. Otherwise just giving them the gondor swordsman attach texture should do.
