    Default Planning for Crusades

Right now I am expanding my territory as Sicily, but I am wondering when to start expecting and building for a Crusade. I would prefer to call my own, but I don't know how long I have until other factions start calling for war

As in they attack Italy or my island by fleet invasion? That sounds epic!

? Wow- I have never had a Jihad on Palermo or anywhere else as Sicily or seen it in any of my games. I don't play Sicily much but I've played Genoa probably 8 times just in different versions of SS and never seen that.

    Sounds cool though...

A Crusade is usually called by turn 25 of a game- typical first targets are Cairo or Frankfurt depending on if HRE is excommunicated or not.

If you call your own Crusade it can be handy but remember that after you complete a Crusade there is a wait time before you can call another. Its best to call Crusade on a target far away you intend to keep and hold so you take advantage of the movement bonus to arrive and don't have to ship your units back after its over.

Jihad depends a bit on what factions are fighting and how the wars are going but typically its Jerusalem and then Constantinople. Other targets do happen... sometimes its Cairo if a successful Crusade army captured that city and held it a few turns or once I saw Moors can a Jihad on Tunis.

Moors seem to dominate calling Jihads though. At least until Fatimids or Turks dominate their area then I see them call more or occasionally K Shah.

Well I have my eyes on Alexandria right now. A campaign with Egypt should keep my generals busy....and Kiev? Somebody had to travel far
