    The Big Bang Theory

Who watches this American sitcom series? I find it extremely funny and clever. Absolutely love the characters and how they play off each other, through insults, jokes, memories and all round gags. For me, It's a smarter, more mature version of the American Pie movies only in a series. It's got similarities in that the main characters (minus Penny) are all young males that get up to mischief together, though TBBT is a lot less about sex and girls and is more scientific humour. What are your thoughts on this series? Is it a hit or a miss?

I like it because it has a lot of jokes that geeks will relate more and still be enjoyable for other audiences. It's one of my favorite shows currently on tv.

I've only seen one episode of it, the friends with benefits or w/e, and thought it was freaking hilarious. Do they have DVDs of this out?

Absolutely love it because myself and my friends act very much the same way. Like the episode where they were super excited because they sent a signal around the world through the internet to turn their lamp on, is pretty much how we react to such trivial things like that.

Itīs enyojable to watch for me... first episode I watched was me, two male friends that are quite the smart guys, and a girl that didnt knew much of science....I myself know my fair share of geek stuff. Anywho we were watching and Sheldon said something about some physics theory and all three of us laughed and our girl-friend was sittting there like: "Wha? what happened?" just like Penny so we laughed more.

Indeed it does appeal the greatest to the geeky crowd but still has basic humour that everyone can relate to. The comedy and lines are very well written.

Of course they do, I believe season 1 and 2 are currently out on DVD, aren't they still screening season 3 on TV? Or are they still making it while screening it?

Come now, not even a little bit? I think it's a different spin on classic american comedy, smarter and classier.

Yeah it's a bit farfetched but still funny.

Haha that's pretty awesome, it's the kind of show you can watch with a group of friends and make fun of those that don't get it!

I find the episodes either boring or great: there's rarely any middle ground. The episodes with a plot that centers around the interaction between Sheldon and Penny are the best (that Conan Online ep. in particular is brilliant). Having said that, the last few seconds of the following fragment are without a doubt one of the funniest jokes I've ever seen on a sitcom:

The geeks seem to be science / math geeks, so I don't relate to it, at all.

Its awful, maybe the nerds I hung out with were "moderate nerds" but everything in this show seems unrealistic and over the top.

But I don't care much for any of the CBS type sitcoms like this and (the God awful) 2.5 men, I much prefer NBC style comedies like Scrubs, The Office, 30 rock, Community, etc.

I used to like it a lot, but then I read about some of the criticisms. Now that I think about it, some of the stereotypes employed are kind over-the-top. But, the show retains a lot of geeky humour, so I still find it funny. Though it's treating of Sheldon as the butt monkey bugs me, because Sheldon reminds me of me.

The characters are obvious exaggerations, they have to represent all the geek world (an it's a big world), but it's not that far from the usual depiction of geeks in movies and series, and they actually give great insights into the geek world, it's very well "researched".

Sheldon's character for example is over the top but is sometimes very accurate in representing people that have a minor degree of autism and present several social dysfunctions.

Not every personality type is attributable to some mental disorder. Some people are just introverted and geeky. Autism has nothing to do with it.

Yes, but sheldon's character is not just introverted and geeky, he is oblivious to social norms, has difficulty reading faces and pick up on sarcasm and irony, his life is governed by rules and a break of those rules generate a high discomfort that can manifest itself physically, all of this can be associated with autism. You can do some research on Asperger Syndrome and High-functioning autism, you can definitely draw some parallels with sheldon's character.

It's a great show. Really very funny. And Sheldon is awesome, he memorized the Star Trek version of rock paper scissors.
