Why is male on male rape almost taken lightly and treated humorously in popular culture, while male on female rape is almost always seen as horrific?

These are just 3 examples, there are obviously many more.

I'm guilty of this myself, among my friends if I did poorly on a test or something I might say "I got raped" or some variant. This is seen often on the internet as well.

Because it comes off as strange. People don't think about homosexuality as violent, thus it seems very unusual.


But then it all depends on context.

It's because homopohbia or any orther bigotry is seen as a quaint vetige of our embarrassing past, there's something very funny in that.

It isn't funny. But I suspect the trend has echoes in popular culture in which, e.g. in sitcoms, the male is almost always the idiot while the female is the voice of reason. Showing men as weak is apparently funny, it's just a reversal of reality to get a laugh.

It should be seen as at least equal to male on female rape in my mind....not to denigrate women, rape is awful at all times....but a dick doesn't belong up a bum in the first place, and secondly it has to be quite terrible for a man's self-esteem, bodily integrity etc. For a man to be treated like a submissive against his will has to be soul destroying.

I noticed this in American and western culture too when I came here. For example a naked guy is funny. A naked girl is sexy. Kicking a guy in the groin, funny. Kicking a girl in the groin, violent. In general when a guy gets hit its funny. You never see some sort of joke centered around a woman being hit. There's your equality for you.

Source of that lies in incomprehensible existence of the opposite sex, different feminity values and different virility ones.

There are holocaust jokes. There are Dead baby jokes. There are plenty of "sick" jokes that normal people find amusing for one reason or another.

In short: I don't know why it's funny, it just is.

It's not even considered "shocking" funny though like those others. Female rape jokes are considered shocking, male rape jokes seem to be considered crude but fairly tame.

Half of the time, it's just double-standard.
The other half, it's these tropes.

Anything and everything can be funny. The only difference between tragedy and comedy is that comedy lacks sympathy for the characters.

It's about as funny as male on female rape, which is to say, moderately. Obviously horrible in reality but there are a variety of horrible acts/scenario's which can get a laugh if your into dark humour. I don't think anyone actually snickers when someone tells them of an actual man on man rape.
