Hi,
What is the easiest faction to start with? And with which faction shouldnt I start?
Thanks.
High Elves are pretty easy because of their poistion, Eriador shouldn't declare war on you and Isengard is also quite far away.
Gondor is also easy as you have a lot of starting teritories which should make it easier to get money going. However, you'll have to fight both Harad and Mordor pretty early on.
Very easy:
Mordor: Great economy, many cannon fodder units, many elite units, secure starting position, great generals.
Rhun: Secure starting position, gold mines later, much unit variety, the best bodyguard unit.
High elves: Good bodyguards, very good troops, secure western lands.
Easy:
Harad: Quite poor, yet good cavalry and only one enemy to worry about: Gondor.
Dale: Varied unit types, good archers- Yet they have to fight rhun.
Silvan elves: Good archers, but they lack cavalry and their lower tier infantry is quite weak.
Normal:
Isengard: Quite easy, yet you have to fight lot`s of cavalry. And you might have to fight against several factions at once.
Hard:
Gondor: Easy, once you know how everything works, yet mordors endless hordes might easily frustrate new players. Many varied unit types and a good economy.
Rohan: Easier, if you are confident with cavalry. At the start of the campaign they only have to fight Isengard, but often Sauron calls an invasion and every evil faction will start to attack you.
Very Hard:
Orcs of the Misty Mountains: Weak units, many enemies, far stretched empire.
Dwarves: Strong troops, good economy, good starting position. Why are they weak? They aren`t. But they are too slow to catch skirmishers and the OOTMM and Rhun use much of them. Very frustrating.
Eriador: Don`t play it. It will be reworked with the next patch.
I would suggest Harad, they are not easiest but in my opinion more interesting than Mordor
OOTMM? When will the next patch be here?
Also, Im installing everything right now what does the TATW_Hotfix1 do?
When I played against skirmishers, I just put my dwarves in the woods in shield wall. Not too many of them died and the skirmishers soon ran outta ammo. Of course that won't work on every map.. Another thing you can do is hire some Dale cavalry.
Orcs of the Misty Mountain
I presume you downloaded the 1.0 through to 1.4 bundle?
If that is the hotfix I'm thinking of, it fixes a bug wherin the battle display will be a blank white box.
I believe the time of arrival has not been announced for the new patch. It will be along in the near future, we just don't know how near.
Easiest faction?
I would say the High Elves.
They have a pretty fine roster.
But the strength lies in the starting position.
If you have not looked yet, the majority of High Elven lands are near the ocean, nearly boxed in by other good factions.
These lands will almost never be attacked, and thus it is safe to build up an economy there.
While you remain free to turn (can't think of the name now damnit) Elrond's home into the military center, from which you will wage war on the Orcs of the Misty Mountains first, and at some point you will probably have to deal with Isenguard.
Rhun is also an easy faction, if you know how to play them right.
Your economy must be very precise, as must your tech.
I played economy and tech wrong in my first game, as well as not capturing the right settlements.
Dale had taken all the lands around the sea of Rhun soon enough.
(But I eventually fought them (and the Dwarves) back from the gates of oblivion, it took nearly one hundred turns to fix all the failure from the first fifty, but it was the most satisfying game ever.
Orcs, knowledge? *mocking laughter*

I would really have to say High Elves, they are in a secure position and only have to fight an OotMM stack once every 3 turns at the start of the game.
I don't know from experience, but the easiest faction I would think would be the High Elves. They own the Northwest section of the map and have their backs to the sea, so they have sea trade and good cities ( I don't know if the player can make ships ). With their economy, starting position, decent units, their allies ( or tools ) Eriador, it should give the player a sense of security. And if you don't want it to be boring then go and start trouble with the Dwarves. In fact, I think the High Elves are in a position for any kind of mischief they so desire. It's too bad the good factions can't do crusades, but who would act as the good Pope in this case? But if you are High Elf then why not have your own personal mission and cross the mountains ( or go around North ) and crush the Silvan Elves in their homeland for what rightly belongs to you?

Just make sure you attack the Dwarves before Eriador allies with them, so Eriador doesn't break your alliance and then attack you. They don't always ally, but they seem to when I am planing on making a move against the Dwarves.![]()
Definately High Elves. There isn't another faction in the game that can even remotely compare to how easy they are.
If you like the picture of my woman, GIVE ME REP!!!!
Thanks for a the great replies!
I started a campaign with the High Elves, Im having a lot of trouble with building up my economy. Even though I have only 2 small armies defending my borders I am still bankrupt like every turn. Disbanding some of my units is not an options as Im getting swarmed by goblin armies.
Any tips?
Btw do Elven familymembers ever die of age?

Well you should only need armies near imlardis or whatever the hell its called, the western shore should be pretty quiet.
Just build all economic buildings there starting with roads and farms, and build military buildings in imlardis(but not before buildings roads and farms there too)
Also try to get trade rights with everyone around.
As previoulsy stated, most factions are pretty easy once you get used to them (well not eriador lol). High elves and mordor are easiest overall.
