Default Works for a second, then closes itself.

    Running vista 64x. I have 1.5v patch.

    sapphire RADEON HD 4890 1gb 256-bit

    G skill 4gb (2 2gb sticks) DDR3 1600 dual channel

AMD phenom II 945 3.0ghz 95W quad core processor

    samsung 23'', 16:9, 1080i

Anybody got any ideas what's wrong? The problem only started when I installed the 1.5 patch.
Would it be caused by having the 1.5+1.3 patches? I've tried restarting. Thinking of re-installing since now I can't play at all.

If you could play it before the patch, you have a bad patch.

What version of the game do you own? The old 3-dc set? Gold? Eras?

I used the old 3 disc set.

So, there's no way to just uninstall the patch and NOT lose all my saves?

It's bad patch Which one you will have to figure out.

Move your saves to a nice safe place. Will they be compatible afterwards we won't know until everything works.

    1. Uninstall the game using its uninstaller.
    2. Delete the Activision folder in Program Files (x86) and the Rome Total War folder in appdata.
    3. Run a registry cleaner like Eusing Free Registry Cleaner.
    4. Reboot.
    5. Install the game.
    6. Start a campaign.
    7. If it starts, download a fresh 1.3 patch and install it. If not, repeat steps 1 thru 7.
    8. Start a campaign.
    9. If it starts, download a fresh 1.5 and install it.
    10. Start a campaign.
If it starts, you're good to go. If not, you'll have to do it over until it is.
