They are not automatically installed. To install Byg's Grim Reality and RR/RC, download RR/RC from http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=300716 . Don't forget to download the march update from http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=336450 afterwards. Then, once you have RR/RC installed, just copy and paste the files from the Data_BGRIV in your stainless steel directory into the stainless steel data folder.

As to what they are, RR/RC is an amazing compilation mod that includes changes to units (Awesome changes) Expanded/Modified rosters for many factions, removes the Irish faction and replaces it with the Timurids and changes the way units are recruited in a way that causes elite units to be rare and valuable.

BGR adds a lot of complexity... In fact, so much that I don't feel like describing it. http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=106060 has all the information.

You can have either mod without the other. I play RR/RC with only about 1/4 of my games using BGR. I highly recommend RR/RC. If you enjoy additional complexity and don't find the game difficult, BGR can add a lot to the game. ^_^.
