I've played Medieval II quite a bit but this game is a lot different and a bit overwhelming. What country would you guys recommend for someone new?

Great Britain?
it's the common starting faction![]()
Great Britain or Prussia.
Prussia? You start surrounded by hostiles, and you end up going to war with every by 3 turns. On VH it is impossible to make past turn 14. I've lost Berlin twice to Poland in two consecutive campaigns.
No, but Britain (when playing below H/H, then you get the crap naval invaded out of you) is easy, and technically so is the Road to Independence.
Hi there.
Prussia is the best nation besides the Marathas, if you go for a VH/VH campaign. Not getting past turn 14 is your shortcomming, not the fault of the all-mighty Prussian Army. Losing Berlin is simply poor planning. So go for a Prussian campaign, it is very entertaining, as its army more than compensates for the difficult starting position.

For me, Sweden was easiest. Just sit there and build an economy. Sure you MIGHT have to contend with Denmark, Poles or Russians. usually russians try to kill you but i've done games where me and russia ended up being the best of buds and making the world our backyard.

Great Britian, even if you lose your colonies it is still a hard faction to beat, you can normally counter any AI's attempts to invade which is almost never of the English Isles. So you can engage your enemies normally at your own terms, never a real big threat of being wiped off the map.
Prussia is perhaps the hardest faction starting out, the conflicts in Central Europe are very fearious. Like most minor factions in Central Europe that you can play through modding, if you can survive the first two decades you will be pretty much set for the rest of the campaign since Central Europe is very rich and wealthy lots of natural schools to. Prussia is hard at first but after you take over the minor germanic factions surrounding it your income and technological research rate will be equal to no other.

Sweden. You can defend your lands easily until you build a few decent stacks.
GB is easy, but can be overwhelming as you have territory spread out over the Americas.
Russia is a fun choice. You have nothing to fear in the east so you can focus on the western front. Just watch out for the sneaky Georgians and Dagestan folk.
Well for someone new. Play as Prussia on normal. Its nice because you do go to war but with people right beside you. Your having to worry about overseas empires or maintaining a navy and you start off with a superior army than your neighbors who will beat each other up as well. Just pick your allies carefully, go for the German states and one big guy. I like Austria cause it normally gives me cause to fight the Ottomans which is a spring board for empire in the med, which can later lead to India and the big money.
I would avoid VH/VH till your more experienced.
Great Britain, Spain, or Russia.
Oh dudes GB is easy to play as, you dont even have to defend your colonies if you dont whant to have them. And if you decide to protect them, whats the treaht? Indians? no come on xD
But the really esiest faction to play i belive is the mahartmha (spells?), they have almost only one faction against them and thats the Mughal.
There are 2 minor factions next to your capitol but they are easy to defeat.

He should do no such thing as starting on N.
Are the Mughals available from the start? As you're a Medi vet, their good melee units will 'ease' you into the game. If not, surely everyone gets an unlock all factions mod eventually anyway. Can't remember all the nations... constant CTDs made me give up on the game until NTW was released and I came back to get use to muskets again before I could get Napoleon a few weeks later.
Mughals aren't playable and are hard faction.
Try Road To Independence
TEMPLARS
My my, it seems everyone agrees that GB is the bee's knees for beginning players, top hole analysis chaps. Though I must admit that there are probably easier factions to start off with then Her Majesty's realm, I implore you all to remember that as Great Britian you will almost certainly end up in a conflict with both France and Spain, two very powerful nations -- damn their eyes!. No indeed old boys, take a hop across the world with Lowes and lets explore the Maratha Confederacy; I believe it is by far the easiest faction to play as first, so long as you can keep the Europeans from gaining ground. Just my two pounds and some spare shillings for you all, eh what!
Oh yes, and have a jolly old Easter, hrmph!

great britain is the easiest. You dont even need an army to defend your lands and you can send a navy and invade almost anywhere in the world.
odi et amo quare id faciam fortasse requiris / nescio sed fieri sentio et excrucior
The nation of douchebags
Maratha is the easiest trust me once you defeat the weak Mughal Empire you will rule the India and with that you can get like minimum 15k gold per turn. After that you can kick Netherlands and Portugal from India easly. Then make 2 stacks of army and invade Persia,Ottoman Empre and Russia from causcaus and I played with every country I only won with Maratha
