Imperator (A Roman RPG)
The year is 14 AD and the Emperor is dead. Augustus, who has led the Republic and the Empire through peril and into peace, is dead. His adopted son, Gaius Julius Caesar Agrippanus, has seized the throne after a brief civil war with Tiberius Claudius. Now known as the Emperor Agrippa or the the Emperor Gaius, the new Imperator, has scores to settle in Germany where it has been decided that a new campaign will be led.
This is Imperator the game of politics, intrigue, death and success. Rise the ranks from simple citizen to Imperator of the Roman Empire and establish a dynasty that will test the ages. But you must be weary, lest rivals plot to push you off the already slippery throne and into the Tiber river. This is Imperator, how far will you go?
Character Creation
All things begin at Registration. This is where you will be able to create your Main Character. Simply create a post with the following details about him or her:
1) Name
- The players will need to know what your name of preference is. Try and pick a suitable Roman name.
2) Age
- State the age of the character, keeping in mind this may completely affect the way the world reacts to your character.
3) Ethnicity
- Imperial Rome was a mix pot of different cultures and peoples. By this time there are multiple ethnicites you could be while still being considered Roman.
4) Biography
- This doesn't have to be long; three or four sentences. Give a summary of what your character has done and his personality.
When you begin you are a Citizen. You must make allies if you wish to advance in the Roman world. Keep in mind your past family or aquaintances may have an impact on this.
Creating a House Thread
When you finish that step create a house in Rome. Where you live defines you, a wealthy aristocrat may live in a villa, while a poor pleb may live in a slum in the Subura. Put some thought into where you live as it may affect the game itself.
Assasination
The Ways To Kill
- The First way to kill a person is through an anonymous assassination
- First pick your target
- Be sure to have a good reason to kill him. Now this may be confusing to some people but in order to stop rampant assassinations for no other reason than based on their previous character you must have a reason. Whether it be that someone told you so-and-so was going to rebel, or it is a rival lord attacking your lands.
- Next PM a mod stating your reason, SI's you wish to use (more on this later), your target, and location
- The mod will do the rest, he will do a roll and post in the desired thread, no hint will be given to your identity
- The Next way is an open assassination of a person
- First you must be in the same thread as the target
- Next we would like for you to pm a mod telling you your reason BEFORE you post you are trying to kill your target(most of the time though the reason is obvious if you are resorting to a open assassination... but you never know, if no mod is on you can skip this step as time may be of the essence)
- Post that you are trying to kill so-and-so using whatever SI you wish to use with roll
- Mod will do the rest
- The Final way is a type of open assassination but it has its own twist to it
The Rolls
- First, you and your target must be alone, no matter who else is in the thread if you can get the person 'alone' in an off room that will work
- Same as with previous method
- Same as with previous method
- Same as with previous method
- Now the juicy part, though it was an open assassination no one will know of it's happening, nor will they know you did it INGAME (this goes upon that they cannot use OOC knowledge such as things like this to alter their game play) AND you will not need an escape roll, the body will not be discovered until you leave the premises, a very valuable tool for a well guarded person.
The Emperor- 4/20
- This is a fairly simple section stating the base rolls for an assassination attempt
Higher Ranks- 6/20
(Consul, Pro-Consul, Praetor, Imperial governor, Amici Caesars, governors)
Lower Ranks- 9/20
(Legate, Tribune, Senators)
SI's and how they affect rolls
SI's or Special Improvements, can affect roll chances in a dramatic manner, this section will explain the overall affects of SI's on rollsEscapes After Assassination Attempts
- Assassination SIs
- These add to the chances of killing someone
- Anti-Assassination SIs
- These, as you might have guessed are SIs that decrease the likelihood of the assassin's success
- Defense SIs
- If the target is wearing their armor, the defense bonus is translated into the anti-assassination bonus
- These can only be used at the person's home, so are not applicable when out and about
Location and Escape Rolls
- We have revamped the escape system so it is no longer reliant on other people in the area, now it depends on location
(Copied from GSTK)
- There are now specific rolls on where you try to kill a target, and here they are

The Imperial and Senatorial Ranking System
Tribune of the Plebs - Defender of the lower classes; has the right to veto any legislation or the act of ANY magistrate in Rome. Technically, he can veto the decisions of the Princeps, but he takes his life in his hands if he does...
Praetor - Judges of Roman society. They hold outdoor trials before the Comitium, a gathering of the people of Rome. Appeals may be made to Caesar. Praetors were traditionally entrusted with the command of armies during the Republic, but this practice is being replaced by commanders chosen by Augustus.
Consul - technically the highest rank on the Cursus Honorum, the two Consuls are nominally in charge of the armies of the Republic, and conduct sessions of the Senate. Generally hand-picked by Augustus, to be made Consul is an expression of the favor of the Imperator. If Augustus wishes to honor a Senator especially, he will serve as Consul alongside him.
Governors - Though the Senate is in control of few of Rome's provinces, they still appoint governors to those posts. Governors are appointed with Proconsular or Propraetorian authority, meaning they have the same statuses as Consuls or Praetors, respectively. Senators must have served in those posts before they are permitted to serve as governors.
IMPERIAL OFFICES AND HONORS
Imperial governor - The appointed governor in a province owned by Augustus. Usually of Proconsular or Propraetorian rank, though a special dispensation may be acquired to allow this individual to hold the rank.
Legate - Assigned to the command of a small amount of legions, usually one or two. The legates are essentially assistants to the Imperial or Senatorial governor they are assigned to.
Amici Caesaris - The friends, family, and closest advisers of Caesar Augustus. These men, and in rare situations, women, form the court and council of the Imperator, often gathering at Augustus's Palatine home and government complex to conduct business. To be admitted to this "court" shows an incredible amount of favor on the part of Augustus towards the individual involved, but to be removed is an incredible disgrace; many Romans who find themselves fallen from favor will end their lives rather than suffer the shame.
Designatus Heres Augusti - An unofficial position, this person has been designated, either officially, through a will, or otherwise, as the heir of Augustus, and as such is an extremely influential individual.
Imperator - The Roman emperor. The most powerful person in the "restored Republic".
The Imperator has a wide array of official and unofficial powers, all granted upon succession by the Senate. The Imperator has the powers of the Tribune of the Plebs, meaning he can veto any act of the Senate, which in turn gives him the sacrosanctity of a Tribune. He also has the power of the Censor, the antique position of supreme authority over Roman morals, which enables him to conduct a Census of the empire. The Senate also empowers Augustus with Imperium Maius, giving him control over all provincial governors and their legions. Augustus also has Proconsular imperium, giving him the right to bring legislation before the Senate.
Given his wide array of powers, Caesar Augustus has the ability to rule with absolute authority, but be warned! The Senate and People are proud of the Roman heritage of opposition to monarchy, and, though the reign of Octavian Caesar was long and increasingly autocratic, they will not appreciate a usurpation of their historic rights and privileges; it is important to manage the wishes of the ruling classes, as well as those of the people

Imperial provinces can be assigned directly by the Emperor. Legatus Augusti or Imperial governors will run this province in the name of Caesar Augustus.
Senatorial provinces are assigned differently. The Emperor can recommend (sometimes insist) that a certain individual get a Senatorial province but it is ultimately up to the Senate itself.
The Senate and elections
The Senate of the early Principate is in an extremely weakened state. Despite this they still do have powers. The Senate can assign Pro-Consuls or Pro-Praetors to Senatorial provinces and the Senate must approve the ascent of a new Emperor. With that said the Senate has no legions directly under their command as each legions aknowledges the Emperor as their Imperator by sacred oath they hold little raw power. The Senate can, in theory, propose laws but generally they allowed the Emperor to do so and rarely voted against such bills.
The only way a Senator can stand for a magistrate such as Consul or Praetor or even Senatorial Praetor is with the approval of the Emperor. Others can of course stand for election but without the Emperor's approval hold a very weak chance of winning. Usually the Emperor will "recommend" the candidates for the year and then those who are recommended will be elected. On occasion the Emperor allows free elections but very rarely.
