There is a sticky designated for this type of question, actually.
My two favorite mods are Europa Barbarorum and Roma Surrectum.
EB for the simple Historical Accuracy (as much as possible within the limitation of the game), the beauty of the graphics, and the depth of the game.
RS is just fun, simple as that. It looks very nice, runs smoothly, is quite different from vanilla, and has many more units, with more uniqueness.
Alea Iacta Est (The Die is Cast) - Gaius Julius Caesar
An army of sheep led by a lion is better than an army of lions led by a sheep - Alexander the Great
We will either find a way, or make one - Hannibal Barca

WEll, i like Rome Total Realism, but the first times you play ithe mod, it quickly overwhelmes you if it thes first mod you play.
I suggest XGM, because it has a similair setup to Vanilla and is just a great gateway mod, its more of a transition.
Passing on to describe the way in which Napoleon employed ‘principles’ or ‘ingredients’ for the prosecution of War, it must from the outset be understood that his strategical and tactical systems followed no closely ruled pattern. Every operation was unique; no two were ever quite the same. However, the underlying every Campaign and battle were certain fundamental, which were applied according to circumstances.
