This is somewhat embarassing, seems I didn't mention map_fog either. I really shouldn't assume things.

Same size as map_heights, simply fill it with white (RGB 256,256,256)

    Edit: manual updated (again)

You mean RGB 255? Because there's no 256..
So, shall I edit the map_heights and just fill it with that color or create a new, blank gimp and fill it with white?

    Finally, it's working!
    Thanks for the help man..
Now, for next step, shall I visit 'adding detailed regions' in order to find out how to create them on the map?

Get my manual Creating a World - The Geomod Manual by gig if you are using Geomod. Otherwise the 'detailed regions' will give you an insight how the stuff is interconnected.

That is indeed awesome news, I feared they removed it permanently. I will copy the link into the first post.

    Manual is updated:

    - updated manual for new version
    - changed picture saving method

Changed the name of the tutorial from "Worldwind mapper" to the correct "Demis online Mapper"

Thanks for the info - I actually feel that the new version is more detailed. Especially the "Biome" setting which can be used for the map_climates graphic.

It seems that the online map server has gone down... I have been searching the web for another one, but without any luck.

Edit: Nevermind!!! Sorry... Saw the new link

    Link doesn't work...

EDIT: The new link doesn't work. It isn't for me. Googling for the Demis online mapper fails because the homepage doesn't exist, apparently...

Seems to be temporary (identical message for the main page):

    Target Server Not Found

The server(s) responsible for the requested URL "http://webmap.iwmi.org:80/mapper.asp" was not available. This could be because no servers were assigned for the URL or servers are down or unhealthy.

It seems more than temporary to me. It's still down. It hasn't been up since I first posted in this thread, and I've visited each day to check.

Looks as if this is the only alternative at the moment: http://www.demis.nl/home/pages/wms/demiswms.htm

The website comes and goes, unfortunately, by now we have three links on the first page to choose from.
The Biome option appears to have been just a short time 'appetizer' - would have been nice to use it for creating map_climates.

I used the pdf file to create my own map and it works great
Only it says to fill the sea with rgb 0,0,25 in map_heights, though that should be 0,0,253 or your shore will look pretty messed up. Took about 1 hour to find the problem.

I have 1 more question though, my shorelines are a bit pointy at some spots. As you can see here:

I know it will probably be quite a bit of work, but I was wondering how you can make the shore "smooth" in those spots.

    with rgb 0,0,25 in map_heights
Definitely a typo, thanks for pointing it out - I will correct it right now.

Coastal spikes - there is a tutorial in the mapping forum on how to deal with that: How to Make a Smooth Coast
