Yes, it was bad luck. Is there any tutorial to create it by hand? Italy_river, Italy_radar, Italy_height. Ok. But, Background?

Thank you. I'll try to do it.
The link in the pdf to the mapper does not work.
Will this do? Sorry if it is a stupid question, I am on unknown ground here, merely considering making a mod to use in my history teaching at high school.

Archived it, it seems. But thanks, we shall see if I can learn it. It seems a tad much to make a mod to use in teaching, without getting paid for it...
Thanks anyway, I will have a look. Or perhaps modify the existing Teutonic Campaign.
The BIOME mapper is no more available - use this link to the full page, advanced mapper.
The Biome map is basically the climate map - you should be able to create a reasonable climate map using the blank landmass and then check online for suitable climate maps that you can adapt. Here is a quick search result with 'climate map Italy'
I'm currently working on the map that I've created so far by using this method. However, I've reached the point for which I need to put settlements on the map. My question is, how do I find the coordinates of the said settlements to make the descr_strat.txt file (if I remember correctly)?
The idea is to get a basic map that I can open with Geomod and to carry on the job with it

There are no co-ordinates involved in the descr_strat entries. Not sure if I mentioned it in the tutorial, but that would be the reason why you should take a screen shot that also shows cities - it will give you an approximate idea where your settlement will be in the same way how you place the rivers, and then you can place the black pixel in descr_regions. The entry in descr_strat will 'only' have the settlement details but will in no way influence the placement.
If you need a refresher for the basic file interactions and for a 'how to' of a bare minimum set up then check in my 'basic mapping' tutorial.
I'm using that tuto as well
Sorry for my mistake, I was meaning for a character. If I have the right understanding, I need at least 1 region, 1 faction, 1 settlement and 1 general to get something working somehow. So, I can put a character haphazardly on the map and see if it works (hoping he won't show up at sea )

Even placing a character in the sea will work, it will however create an error in the log and the character will be immovable. Simply plonk a named character (to get a faction leader for the faction) somewhere and then get going. Geomod (the tool) might actually start up without any characters, never tried it, though.
Interesting
I'll see how it works and will let you know (when I can find the time to try it).

I managed to make a couple of quick trials this afternoon.
The 1st one leaded to a ctd when launching a campaign. I re-arranged the map_features and proceeded to the 2nd trial.
With the 2nd one, the game just freezes on the screen menu when trying to launch the campaign. No idea through what can cause that but I'm suspecting a bad entry in one of the text file

Thanks, will do
Edit 1: didn't solve the issue.
Edit 2: I've tried to run it with Geomod which has crashed at 96% of the loading. So it looks like that the problem comes from the descr_terrain file or from one of the maps.

Unfortunately, Demis seems to be down for me. The program doesn't load, and the addon gives a 404 error.
It's a shame, because a program like this would be so useful to have, and not just for modding Medieval 2.
