We need more fine art stuff on this forum.
Ben Reeves is a contemporary Vancouver artist who mainly dabbles in painting and also dome some drawings and prints. Paintings are realist with post-impressionist influences, also does some abstract one.
interpretation: I see that he is interested in capturing transient matters (rain, snow, etc...) and give them solid and permanent form. The materiality displayed is a play on representation as he reminds people that painting is just painting, the manipulation of thick fluid on a canvas. It should be noted he does not paint from models but pictures he got off from the net. In this way he does not construct a scene actively with models but rather he warps an existing scene(or reality) and adds another layer onto it. It is his practice to explore and change already existing subject matters as he did drawings based off other people's paintings.
despite having vastly different styles, I think his play with representation and reality also has links with hyperrealism.
the colour on some pics might look strange because I took them myself without flash and couldn't adjust the colours too well in photoshop.
