Rename? Then you will rename it for all the factions otherwise for different name create a new unit using the same model and textures.
OK Then I would only be using the model and unit cards but basically create a new unit for English (and possibly French) factions. So if I want to add a shield to a crossbow man, how do I do that? I would have to change the unit name and description. Could you tell me how to do this please?

OK I'm not sure what I'm looking for here. I found this:

    Code:
    6 france
    72 unit_models/_Units/EN_Lmail_Hmail/textures/EN_Lmail_Hmail_france.texture
    72 unit_models/_Units/EN_Lmail_Hmail/textures/EN_Lmail_Hmail_normal.texture
    46 unit_sprites/france_Crossbowmen_ug1_sprite.spr
I'm guessing those are the regular crossbow men. I have to change them to English, and I want to add a shield. Their colours would have to change to English colours too. Is this even going to be possible? I'll have to change their name also. I'm trying to turn them into this:

    @gamer025
Every unit has a model and different textures for the same model depending upon the faction type.
If you want to add a shield to the crossbow unit then you have to do 3d modelling a very tedious task for a newbie.
If you want to change the existing textures and rename the unit etc that is easy.

OK for now I won't add a shield. Could you tell me how to change the Crossbowmen to English (I still want a french version) and rename him? I also want to create a new unit using the Crossbowmen for the French based on the two pictures I've provided.

Question: Would it be simpler to add a sword to Armoured Sergeants? I'm going to try to create the unit above for the French on my own until I have problems or one of you writes back

That's what this tutorial is for "How to add an existing unit to another faction".

That is 3D modelling best you leave it for now as first you should learn the basic text manipulation.

That is again 3D modelling but not that tough but it still requires the use of Milkshape so leave it for now.

I don't see how it is. The Crossbowmen already have a sword. If I remove the crossbow and change their primary weapon to the sword, and edit their unit stats to make them better at melee, then I already have the unit I want for both France and England. I want to replace the Armoured Sergeant with this unit. I can add a shield later. Shouldn't this be much simpler?

How do I change the current A/S with this version of Crossbowmen as a new unit and renamed.

I thought if I replace the current French A/S with the textures for the Crossbowmen, and then in EDU adjust their stats to make them better at melee, and then make the sword their primary weapon and remove the crossbow that would be all. Then I just want to make them upgradeable to partial plate.

    Any ideas there Ishan?

OK this is just an example but the EDU for them would look something like this (for France and England though - the name is just a sample and is French for Men at Arms.)

    type Gens d'armes
    dictionary Gens d'armes ; Gens d'armes
    category infantry
    class heavy

No it shouldn't, because the only way for the game to know which weapon on the model is the primary is for the weapon, on the actual model, to be labelled that way. In other words on the actual model itself the crossbow is called the primary weapon, and the sword is called the secondary weapon. So if in EDU you change the primary weapon to sword, without changing the model, in battle you will see the model trying to use the crossbow as a sword.

In order to change the weapons of a unit you need to change both the model and the unit entry in EDU, as well as possibly the textures for the unit as well, though that you can probably skip just by swapping the primary and secondary weapon on the model and disabling the secondary weapon in EDU.

Has anyone besides Gigantus looked at the files i posted earlier in the thread? If you havn't and your reading this, please take a look at them and see if you can find out what is wrong. If you need more information on what is exactly wrong you can briefly read the posts by me, Ishan and Gigantus leading up to it.

    I still have riderless Lancers!!!

Yeah sorry for not giving a feedback i was busy and completely forgot about it.
Here you go it's working now and with proper textures and sprites.
    Proof:-
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

The unit is available to both France the true owner and England as well. You just need to add them in the grand campaign via EDB file and give them it's unit cards.

I think i am going to cry now. Ishan, idk what is going on now because i used your files and launched the game, went straight to custom battle, set up lancers (England) vs a random unit from Scottland, started, and still no riders. I dont know what could b wrong anymore. Maybe it is something in my settings clashing that is obscure and unusual, which is y it works for u and not me??? Idk

No you just have to put the IO command in the .cfg and place the files that i attached above and launch it.

Sorry but i can't understand what you are trying to achieve.
If you want Crossbowmen to be like Norse swordsmen that is something can't be done just with text editing.

Just tell me one unit and what you like to do with it that is copy stuff from other existing units etc and i will give you exactly that.

idk if this helps, but the general unit (when attached to the lancers in a custom battle) appears just fine on his horse. its the acutal lancers, the rest of the unit, that dont appear.

Add a custom trait then if it helps you like Lancer_007 or something.
