I'll take a look at you mod if you post it. However, I don't own the game, so I can't load it.

    Thanks for your reply,

So, I am going to do my 1st "extract"
and see if I am good enough to do a very small thing as
allowing a different number of Art_Foot_French_Experimental_Howitzer : experimental Howitzer let say from 4 to 6
I do know that after that I have to write a very small and easy script and put it in the
    "\Application Data\The Creative Assembly\Napoleon\scripts" directory.

    Thanks
    and good day or night

So now can I finally add parts from one faction onto another?

I think so. I don't fully understand how it all works honestly, since I'm not actually doing any modding atm. Try asking in the Texturing forum. Those gents know what's going on.

I found out no, Austrian units get that same texture glitch when I tried putting Bavarian helmets on them.

One thing that would would make it easier to mod would be revert the files into something like a spreadsheet like what DB files use, and each column used for a different purpose. So instead of typing in the full path to access the file, you just type the file name of the item you want.

I'm 99% positive you can do it. However, there are some irritating little things you have to keep your eyes on like capitalization. You also have to do more than just change the strings in the .unit_variant file. You need to copy and paste the texture from the old faction's .dds to the new one, define the location in the .atlas files, etc.

I'll consider breaking up the paths, but now that you can copy/paste even between different instances of PFM, moving long strings around is as simple as right-clicking.

thought I'd pop in here for a question

so if I wished to change, say a hat mesh and texture for a swedish cavalry unit, what would I change in the Swedish factions' .atlas and .dds files? or does changing things in the .atlas files automatically change things in the .dds files

So how would I be able to transfer one faction's part to another? I need it to give the Prussians and Russians their hats.

And is it possible to add strings for plumes with units that originally don't have them?

many thanks Erasmuss777 apart from the access to extra tables all the small little additions just make modding that little bit more user friendly.

    much gratitude.

Erasmus I was editing variant and atlas and exactly I was enlarging columns size by dragging column edge/margin (maybe it is a problem with aero feature of windows vista/7?)
I am not sure but it happens after a bit I work with variant and atlas, could it be because of memory needs to display dds and tga files?
I will post as soon as they occurred new error messages with description of my contextual activity.
I am italian and I not speak and write a good english so, please, tell me if I am not exact and so is difficult to understand me.

Thanks a lot again "erasmus777" for your help.

    about
    Art_Foot_Grand_Battery_Convention

    Oh yes, twice yes unfortunatly,

Art_Fix_French_Rocket_Troop seems to be the "last kind of unit" to be hired/recruted regarding tech and building.
I can get them but not this one

    Art_Foot_Grand_Battery_Convention
    I check in db
Art_Foot_Grand_Battery_Convention is "nearly" the same as any other Artillery unit and well define in various directory of the db file (as the other units)

    It needs this building
    sCannon5_engineer_school
    as it is defined in
    db
    building_units_allowed_tables
    building_units_allowed
    and regarding tehnologies
I managed to have them all (esf editor)

I will spend more time to find what is going wrong (with me or with my NTW configuration) and let you know.

I the mean time, thanks a lot.
I can already do a lot more things than before.

    Thanks

Thanks. I finally figured out the source of the out of memory exception--it's somebody else's fault for once . In your PFM folder, use the attached to replace the file of the same name. I'll include the fix in the next update.

    bad news I replaced .dll files as above;
after expanding columns size by mouse dragging in several unit_variant files, I opened an atlas file and expanded first column always by mouse dragging, clicked on string to edit it and same error message.
