I just got Rome with the expansions and I was wondering what mods the SS community plays for it. I put this post in this section rather that the Rome section because I like this community and want your views.

Rome: Total Realism and Europa Barbarorum. Best mods out there IMHO, but I'm a historical accuracy nut![]()
I see a ton of different downloads for RTR. Which do you use?
If you have the Barbarian Invasion expansion, then I believe you need the platinum version of RTR. Unless that has changed since the last time I looked.
I totally agree about RTR and EB. A new version of RTR is coming out sometime and it looks very cool. I'll go back to playing RTW when that is out. EB2 for MTW2 will be nice but it looks like a year or so before its ready.
There are different versions of RTR depending on what you want to play. I like the basic campaign but some emergent hordes are interesting if you play the time line long enough so probably get the most recent RTR for Barbarian Invasion. Can't remember which it is but the community there is helpful and many of them play MTW2 as well though I think SV is more popular then SS when I asked before.

They have unbelievable Hoplites... A very en depth mod. Try it...![]()
Roma Surrectum II, but only if you want a med-sized map, with GREAT looking units, like reallllllllllly reallllly great units, and a small rpg sense to it.
Europa Barbarorum- HUGE map, very historical, units and somebuilding have option to be put in original language of the region. A historical accuraccy nuts wet dream in the wet dream.
RTR- eh, its ok. It has a huge map, great gloss/graphics, and a nice challenge if you play seleucids. I have a personal favorite of all these and its---
AqD's RTR mod.---takes the graphics from RTR, the units, and historical accuracy from EB, and makes a fusion of the two that comes out ver nicely. He's working on 2.6 that'll go to india, with a mauryan empire unit, along with adding sauka rauka, and Pergamon
Try viking invasion as well as EB and RTR. If you miss some medieval action try chivalry. If you are very interested in the time before Alexander try Rise of Persia (this one is not very high quality, but its the only mod who does that era)
I don't personally like Extended greek mod and Roma Surrectum myself, but alot of people like those so you might want to try one of these. There is also darthmod for rome if you are interested.
to make it cleari recommend Europa Barbarorum and Viking invasion 2. Chivalry is also very good, but you have stainless steel already so

RTR: FOE is also good.
When in doubt, say - Trve Norsk Blækk Mettal

Roma Surrectum is my favourite, tried EB, had too many CTD, not tried RTR, might take a look

I agree, in my opinion SS is to M2 as Europa Barbarorum is to Rome.
EB is a huge mod, really great and fun with some sort of complexity (the 4 governments types for example) but after understanding it becomes really huge. Had so much fun with it, and never got CTD![]()
RTR's the only one I did. AqD's RTR mod was the best but I haven't played since FOE's release...
...ceterum autem censeo Carthaginem esse delendam.
See my sig............love that mod.
Roma Surrectum is the best ever very histrically accurate with really really great models cool factions everything you want in a RTW mod or just about any mod

Europa Barbarorum is the biggest and most popular RTW mod. It is also in my opinion the most historically accurate imo. It has a HUGE map and in my opinion is just plain fun. There are also submods that can let you run it with the Alexander expansion or the Barbarian Invasion expansion.
I used to play with SPQR because of the difficulty, many years ago. That's where I wrote the 1st supplies mod too, though not for public consumption.
Sadly I think I'm the only one who liked barebones. I like the units, skins and map, but understand that it is not historically accurate. I end up modding it myself to change the spartan fighting stance and even up the units for all factions. I also increase defense since I like the battles to last longer and be more tactics involved. But that's just me.
I'm still searching for the "top dog" - at the moment Roma Surrectum has the lead but I've yet to give Barebones and EB another go.
Viking Invasion II and RTR is in my top 5 as well.
