    Default Expanding Towns?

I never knew what this meant but in some towns there are no buildings besides and adminsitrative building ex.(Military Governers Barrack) and a fortification. How do I get the rest of my buildings since I can only recruit a few units with those buildings I already have?

your gonna have to mod it using the db editor, either by adding units to the building or making the town into a city (alot harder)

Is there any way to make the town a city in the game. Like in RTW or M2TW when the population got big enough?

There are 2 types of capitals, towns and cities (that might not be their actual ingame names, but i'll go with it for now). In cities there are 5 build slots - barracks, artillery, naval, happiness, government and walls. These are generally only found at the capitals of nations and represent the administrative centres of the empires. They give you access to the best troops and allow you to unlock researches. Towns occur at all the other capitals and only have 2 build slots, one for government buildings and one for walls. There should be two choices of government buildings, one gives you higher income, but only allows the training of low grade troops such as militia, whilst the other gives you lower tax income, but allows you to train mid-range troops such as line infantry, dragoons, some artillery etc. You have to chose which one you want quite early on (i think its the third building upgrade) and then you have to stick with that choice for the rest of the game. Its therefore best to have the military one near your borders, with the economic ones inland.

There is no way of changing between cities and towns (and no squalor either).

    Hope that helps

Just one addition here. If you choose the military or civilian government line, you can always change your mind by demolishing the building you built there. For example if you have a Military building you can demolish it and build a civilian government building in it's place.

Yeah but you will have to start from scratch again.

In North America there are also single slot capitals. In those cities you can't build walls.
Officer to a soldier who refuses to fight: There three types of soldiers who don't have to fight. They are called KIA, MIA and POW and you are not one of them.

    Tosa will be missed.

Your town's don't expand but your whole country expands and unlocks new towns/citys and ports.
I'm missing this in napoleon, why is there no newcastle? one of the major ship building port's and the local city to admiral collingwood, and the city where george stephenson made the steam locomotive that fueled the industrial revolution.
This is one of the reasons i moved back to empire over nappy, i still play napoleon but love the semi/world map of empire, there is nothing like using cannister shot on a group of silly indians at point blank range.

It is not in NTW because the timeframe is so short ... as opposed to ETW that has over 100 years.

You are NOT stuck with either the military govenor (or vice versa) building tree for the rest of the game because you can destroy the building and start over at any time. If you want to change it after say you capture a city wait till the resistance ends and destroy the building and build what you want. I do this alot as there are enough "big cities" that can supply me with the good units I need ... and I simply don't build troops that much that I need the military govenors as much as I need the money that a regular administrator gives me.

Yes i know it's a short time line in napoleon but newcastle was well established and productive by the end of empire 1700's-1800's, as it was in real life, but not in napoleon in the 1800's-1900's .

This is one of the reasons i would take empire over naploeon as there is more scope and scale in comparison.

Well there are many cities and towns not represented in the game that maybe should be ... remember they have to balance the game to make it fun so not everything is correct or even realistic. But if you really love Newcastle ... as I do as well ... then I suggest you play FIFA ... Newcastle rocks and it is great fun to bring them back to the top level of football where they belong and will be next year!

Aye true, Newcastle is buzzing at the min after winning the championship and setting a new record of being unbeaten at home all season(st james's park-fortress), then we set a club record of 20 odd clean sheets in a season, but were not getting carried away just yet let's see how the season starts for us.

What makes a town prosperous? Lower taxes?

Don't worry we will win through, remember Stockport! My worry is ground sharing @ the New Den or similar.
