red patch question

Can anyone tell me what this red patch is and why it blows up when i walk over it?

That would be Fougasse, a sort of mine of the Napoleonic era.

If the AI has light infantry in its army then it can set up a fougasse before the battle begins which will explode with shrapnel, taking out 10-20 men.

Avoid at all costs.

I must say it's a shame that the red patch exists, really. It takes all the interest out of it as it can just be easily avoided.

Since the colour of the field of fire can be edited (there are mods that have changed it in Empire, possibly Napoleon too), perhaps the red spot's colour can be modded to transparent?

does anyone know what units can use the Fougasse? i know its either light infantry or skirmishers, but does anyone know the exact unit? and are there technology prerequisites?

Only the AI can use it, from what we've seen.

That's what I thought too. Cool feature.

I only found out about it a couple of days ago when I accidently walked into one. Never even noticed the red patch.
