    Default Changing start date

    Hi there,

Can anyone tell me exactly what files need to be modified if I want to change the start date?
I know of course that descr_strat.txt and descr_events.txt has to be altered but I wonder if there is any other than these two?

    Any help is welcome

The descr_strat is the only one you really need to modify. The events are done in turns.

Yes, I know that but it sounds way too easy to me...
For example changing from 1100 to 1200 requires also a revision in the descr_events file where all event dates must be put 100 'points' earlier at 1YPT and 200 at 2YPT respectively.

But I'd like to know whether this is all work needed or is there other files that needs to modified?
    The campaign_script.txt perhaps?

The only file you need to change is the descr_strat file, simply change the dates. The events file goes by dates, not turns, so changing from 1tpy to 2tpy or even 12tpy wont make a difference, the event will fire the first of that year (you would only need to change it via campaign_script if you wanted the event to occur in say, august, and not january for a 12tpy).

Depending on the mod you are working with, there may be scripted events in the campaign_script, such as the appearance of say, william wallace, he is scripted to appear on a particular turn. That would need to be edited based on the *tpy and starting date you chose. Other events in the campaign_script may need editing such as the appearance of factions etc.

Changing the turns per year can have significant effects on your mod that most people are not aware of. IF for example you changed to 4tpy, and you changed building times to represent that length of time. Then you would also need to edit the missions file, as missions will act differently. You would also need to edit the guilds file as you will be earning guildpoints as if you were still playing vanilla. Most mods i have seen miss these 2files, and every mod ive seen misses the missions file. Try completing the quest to construct a chapel in 4 turns when someone changed the build time to 6 and tell me if you succeed in the mission.

If you look at my signature you will see a link to modded files for a 2tpy, the way it should be. I never completed that, BUT, the first post gives you examples of the files you would be expected to change. Which may be helpful.

With that said, most fiels only need to be changed if you change the building times, as a lot of missions, guilds and so forth are dependant on build times. Ifyou just wish to change the starting date, then the descr_strat and campaign_script should be all you require.

    Hope that helps.

    Thanks Tsarsies!

I've been thinking about making a historical accuracy mod to Rozanov's great 2TPY/all-town release (and for SS 6.2 perhaps) and was curious what effort would be needed to move the start date to 20 years later. 1120 would be a better start date imho as all but one or two faction leaders and heirs (and their respective ages as well) could be historically correct whereas in 1100 it's far more difficult to be accurate.

    Regards

    Code:
    event historic first_windmill
    date 50
This is an entry from descr_events, the event will fire after the 50th occurrence of winter, which is the games way of counting years.

    1. If you just change the amount of turns per year, no change is necessary.
    2. If you change your start date, say from from 1100 to 1130, you will have to reduce that figure by 30 for the event to occur in the same year as before.
    3. If you change your start date, say from from 1100 to 1080, you will have to increase that figure by 20 for the event to occur in the same year as before.
