    Default assistance with resources

    hello everybody,

    I'm a starting modder who is trying to add a unique resource on the map..

    situation is this:

    i have a weathertop model which i want to place on the tatw campaign map.. when reached a script triggers with a event movie.. the second part is all down.. but i can't get the resource on the map.. i tried many things but it just doesn't work.. i tried a new resource and i tried changing an existing one which both didn't work out for me..

    can anyone give me a step by step plan on how to script an unique resource on the campaign map or at least help me in the right direction? i would be really thankfull

    i'm going to try this tonight or tomorrow i didn't found this one :S a few others though.. also tried a lot with geomod which didn't work out..

    I don't think you can create resources in the in the descr_sm_resources. So choose an existing resource (like elephants for example) and rename your weathertop model and texture to resource_elephants. Edit your desc_strat and you should be good to go.

    I've followed the tutorial but received a shutdown while trying to load the campaign map..

    under models strat are..

    resource_slave CAS file

    under models strat/ textures is..

    resource_slaves.tga this tga file is converted from a dds.. i also put the dds in since i see that with the other resources..

    the creator of the weathertop also provided me with a dds weathertop_hills.. i don't know what to do with that..

    I hope someone can help cause i really don't know what is wrong :S

    Besides the log, have you reached the hardcoded limit of resources in the first place?
    If so, I'd suggest to follow Tyre's suggestion in simply edditing a resource, which is not used.

    I already followed that instruction and tried replacing slaves.. it stood in the turorial aswell, thats weird :S i renamed everything slaves.. changed the slaves coordinates.. just called it weathertop outsice the {} in tooltips & strat.. why does it try to find the weathertop then?

    The trouble is the hardacode limit is 20, and the vanilla game uses them all. You have to replace an existing one.

    Ah you're confusing resources (visible on the strat map) with hidden_resources (obviously not visible on the strat map and used for other purposes) mate

    aah good to know learned some new this day then

    i'm going to try the option gigantus gave me as soon as i'm home.. but i wonder.. why are the other four lines present then? cause if you look at the text files.. as far as i know i don't search for the weathertop but for the slaves..

    23:18:35.573 [data.invalid] [error] Insufficient video memory to load requested texture set.
    This usually means that the game cannot find the texture for a model.
    Renaming the texture of a CAS is a bit tricky - the name is set in concrete. To find out the name, open that CAS file with notepad and go the very bottom of it. There you will find the name and path of the texture. See the example for the original models_strat\resource_slave.CAS file underneath. I use the wordwrap function to make it easier to see.

    There can only be 20 resources as in grain, iron, slaves, elephants. I have tried for 21 myself. The hardcode limit is as old as RTW.

    Hidden resources are a whole different subject.

    As a quick test I just renamed your .cas to resource_wine.cas I copied weathertop.tga.dds and renamed it resource_wine.tga.dds and put all 3 textures in the textures folder. I haven't tried it in a mod folder yet but assume it should work fine.

    [EDIT] Just got it in 3rd age by replacing slaves so you should be all good.

    allright i did the copiing exactly like you said.. 2 textures and the one texture i copied and renamed i putted in models_strat/textures the CAS i put in models_strat

    i changed the coordinates and value (works)
    i changed the tooltip and strat (works but are only descriptions)

    the game doesn't even crash so that's good but... i still have the vanilla slave chains.. :S i tried finding erros in the pathway by looking @ sm_resources or strat but couldn't find it?

    What are the names of your files exactly?

    Should be:
    resource_slave.cas
    resource_slave.tga.dds (copy of weathertop.tga.dds)
    weathertop_hill.tga.dds
    weathertop.tga.dds

    I tried the option from gigantus and recieved a error shutdown.. i retrieved this log:

    i had changed the the links inside the csa to the tga's as well
