    Default Vassals

I searched but not find eniting of this, i want to know how to get the vassals, i played the campaign vere if you conquer all enemy castles and they left only 1 city they surrender, but i reinstalled my SS and i can't find that AI mod and i dont remember how it is named. Now nobody wants to surrender. I conquer all theyr cities and castles I have Huge armies on borders of their last city and they dont have any army left , but they dont want to surrender and dont want casefire. What i must do to vassalate them?

Just keep asking and make sure they don't have many allies. Usually I have to ask several times and occasionally I just get impatient and wipe them out. If you do get a vassal though it is fun to occasionally gift them cities etc as you still get some of the income without having to manage them.

To get vasals one thing must have in mind, hard battles and long war, they have many enemies, they left few or even 1 province, are broke, are tired, you killed them lot of generals, you siege their last province. Very important, you to have good general diplomatic relation, good diplomat and master the negociation technique, if are very against what you ask, dont ask. Is important, a failed negociation cut your chances.

So i must conquer all their castles and armies, and then just ask many times to surrender?

If ask many times, this mean they refuse you, they will NOT became vassals. Just crush them, harder is better. At one point if they are very posible anihilated you can send a expert diplomat. If the proposal became balanced than ask them. If not add some money some small favors, even a province, because vasal mean like is your province. Sometime they come to ceasefire and cand counter with vasality. But must crush them, hard. Imagine Egypt became vasal of France when they remain with mecca and Medina only. Venice became my Vassal when they have only Zagreb. Like this work, facing total anihilation they consider vasality, not before.

Do you mean asking several times in 1 turn or asking several times with 1 diplomat because he losses his abilities after failed negotiations? I've never had a problem asking once per turn for awhile but asking more than once per turn does not work.

Usually the best method is trying to eliminate the factions family down to 1 single general. If they have only 1 family member and 1 city and 0 allies and weak army your chances they agree to vassal are decent.

I personally not advise vasseling muslims since they are common targets for crusades
And if your vassal is at war with other factions you will have to side him or loose the vasselage.

Ohh they will be at war with templars and turks so they will be my enemyes too . That is my plan , conquer all egypt and then invade turk lands from two fronts west and south.

They won't be a target of a Crusade if you take all the important places

I'm trying to make The Knights Templar my vassals as the Turks. I have a reliable reputation but they only have two enemies and three allies. Tortosa is their last settlement and they have less than 50 men. They won't accept vassalage; is there any chance they will eventually or should I give up? I was thinking about using them as my buffer for crusades. Gift them Jerusalem or Constantinople and end the crusade.

what are the benefit of vassals, is it just 50% of their income?

can you build units unique to that civ?

can they break their vassalage with you whenever they want?

using them to manage your citys does not seem worth it, you could always just select auto manage city, and then you get 100% of their income.

You can ask for/demand as much money as you want AFAIK

No. They still control the settlements, so they train the troops.

Yes. And you can too, but its a serious rep hit and they'll inevitably lose so I don't think it'll happen. As Parthia in RTW I was a vassal/protectorate of Egypt, and they attacked me, but I won so it was okay

They don't manage your cities. They manage their cities and give you money. And you don't have to pay for buildings either, or deal with riots etc.

When you expand an empire far enough the regions on the borders are so far away from capitol that often public order or corruption is a huge problem so having a helpful vassal willing to run them for you with a healthy tribute and almost 0 public disorder is nice.

As well sometimes I simply enjoy staying a smaller empire- less to manage and I don't have to fight 12 battles per turn.

Vassalage is a beautiful thing if you play your cards right!

I have an England campaign where I expanded aggressively and worked with the Holy Roman Empire to back France into two eastern territories. I consistently hammered their armies, killed family members, and took their capital after a fairly brutal war.

It was the first time I've ever had an AI faction ask to be -my- vassal. and now the french are my lapdogs and yes, this is on very hard/ very hard!

    Sadly, no!

I do have the same game file though, and I'll admit to being very satisfied about the whole affair. France gave me hell in a number of Vanilla campaigns before this
