How does one go about invading malta?

I can't land my army on their island, when ever i try i just get "path blocked". They have like 2 line infantry and a few ships of the line in their port. So how can i get my Army to land on it?

i found a workaround it by buying military access from them, but is this still a bug?

there is a way that you can land I did read it on another thread if I can dig it I will post a link, basically the guy was saying keep clicking around the isalnd, somebody else suggested enticing their fleet out with a sacrificial sloop and then invade (I think the poster was Heinz Guderian)

I do not think it is a bug. Malta never fell to the enemy while the Knights of St John where there historically. Throughout their stay the Knights built forts and castles allover the island and making it one of the most fortified island in the world, in those days. But when napoleon arrived he only took the island because the french knights sabotaged the guns of the forts in the main port thus allowing him to enter unharmed.

I had this prob but there is a tiny area where you can land even if the port is occupied on the west part of the Island.

You just need to block their navy with yours then you can land your troops anywhere..

sound like good advie from strickland911 - personally I have never ever gone to war with them, a soft spot throwback to the good old crusader days

Personally, I keep a large fleet just outside the knights naval command zone, and then send in one small ship to entice them out. They promptly do so, and run straight into my ships of the line.

A turkey shoot later, I sail into their port, land my forces and take the city.

Hey presto, done and dusted.

Blockade their port then click on you army and land them, worked for me twice.

I'm afraid that you will need to wait for them to leave their port...
This happens on rare occasions, and I would suggest to speed it up by warring them and luring them to attack your port.
Then land with a whole stack (don't underestimate siege battles in DMUC!) by invading their port and destroy them at once!

In my Italian States campaign (the one which I'm playing at the moment) they left their port without any good reason (no war, no piracy etc.).
I'm now really considering to take it before it's too late!

I DO remember that I could land on Malta without military alliance or without invading their port.
I think the way to do this is deleted after a patch...
