Nicolas Cage as Aragorn?

I heard that Nicolas Cage was once offered the role of Aragorn in LOTR but thankfully turned it down.

I can't imagine Cage as Aragorn.

As he is one of the worst actors in Hollywood I'm rather glad that didn't happen. Stuart Townsend may well of been okay.

The man's actually a pretty decent actor. He just happens to pick either the best or the worst movies to be in. Even in the bad ones, he's usually the best thing about it. But he has done some excellent work in the past- Raising Arizona, The Rock, and Lord of War come to mind.

But, still, after seeing the LOTR movies, I can't imagine him as Aragorn. It just ain't jiving for me.

Yeah....no. He fits a witty role as in the National Treasure movies, but Aragorn? I just can't picture that debacle.

I worship Nicolas Cage.

He's in some of the worst movies of all time, but I appreciate him for how ABSOLUTELY INSANE he can be. To me he's like a modern Shatner. Simply the way he acts allows him to get into movies. He has an acting style unlike anyone else. It's obvious that he doesn't give a crap at all about what movies he does. That's why he is in so many bad movies. But he's in some good ones too. If you've seen The Weather Man, Raising Arizona, Matchstick Men, Adaptation, or Leaving Las Vegas, then you'll see his better roles. I recently saw The Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call - New Orleans and let me say that you've never seen Nicolas Cage act unbelievable until you've seen it. It's a role that can hardly be matched with how weird, insane...pick your adjective...it is. I like his actual good movies AND his deplorably horrible movies as well, Bangkok Dangerous, National Treasure (1 and 2), Gone in 60 Seconds, Con Air, The Rock (which actually is the greatest movie of all time because it has Cage plus ing Ed Harris, Michael Bein, AND Connery!!!!11!!!111!!!1!1!!), Face/off, and of course The Wicker Man.

As far as him as Aragorn, I'm glad Viggo was chosen, although his varying accent REALLY annoyed me.

I agree with Rahl, Cage is a great actor, he just has a bad reputation for the bad movies he's done, and not enough praise for all the great movies that he's done.

I loved the Rock when I was a kid. That shower scene was so sick. Force Recon vs. Navy SEALs and I always thought of Michael Biehn being the same SEAL commander that he was in Navy SEALs, such a shame Charlie Sheen couldn't join him for his final mission...

And the same Commander as in The Abyss. He had a glorious career as a movie SEAL.

Cage isn't a bad actor, he's just the king of overacting and he's not terribly discerning when it comes to his roles.

I don't blame him for choosing bad roles, especially when you read about his financial troubles (his own fault). Also, I've read a bunch of articles of people hanging out with him and he seems like THE coolest person to be around.

His role in Kick-Ass definitely looks WIN.

Cage is the worst actor ever. If you made a clip of Cage combining every role he'd ever played, you'd think it was one film. That's how dynamic he is.

God bless Tolkien's Legolas, that he was left relatively unsullied.
