Im computer illiterate : need a new video card.

I haven't been playing alot of games recently, so my video card is a 6 year old GeForce Fx5200, I tryed to start up some basic games on steam and they were far too choppy, already updated drivers and such and I just want a new more modern video card.

I need one that is about $80 US or Euros, don't want to spend too much more.

I also want it to be compatible with my computer's hardware specs, which are...

Intel(r)Pentium(r) 4 CPU 2.53 GHz processor
1536 MB RAM
MultiSync LCD 1555V monitor
AGP 4x @4

I suggest something that's low powered like the Radeon HD5670 but you will need to make sure you have the correct slot on your motherboard. You need PCI-E but looking at the age of your computer you might be limited to AGP or even worse regular PCI.

To check what you currently using download GPUz and see what it say on the first tab under 'Bus Interface' (middle of the screen).

Is the card PCI or AGP? Bearing in mind how old that card is the motherboard will be very old also and won't support many modern cards.

It's an FX card so it's AGP. If you want a decent card for a good price (AGP are really expensive now due to being outdated) you will need to upgrade your motherboard and basically your whole computer because your ram will be DDR1 and other old parts.
But you can get an AGP somewhere. The link that Doono gave you looks alright.

I'd still recommend upgrading your PC very soon. That rig is very outdated

Your PC is outdated to the point where you can't buy any new cards. I have no idea what's happened to the AGP market, but PCI-E is now mainstream. But your specs are so old there's little point in upgrading any specific parts, you're looking at a complete overhaul. As even if you did get a better card, the improvement will be minor and everything else will just bottleneck you.

The Radeon HD4650 linked above would make a pretty nice upgrade over his currant card and he will notice the improvements straight away, just don't expect miracles in currant new games.
