    Default Seeing into the future...

In my building browser I can only seem to see the stuff I can recruit now... there is no display of units like Almughavars, even though I'm playing as Aragon.

Is that a bug, and if not, can we have some sort of tech tree so we can see what units we'll be able to get in the future?

It's not a bug. It simply is the way units are kept away untill the date they were used in history. After certain events new units become avaiable and some old ones disappear. Also, units go down tiers as well (Feudal Knights from fortress to castle, and so on)

So I can't tell what I'll get until I can get it?

Sadly, yes. Of course, the custom battle can tell you what troops your faction can get, but you can't tell what buildings will make them until the event making them available occurs. Although you can check export_descr_buildings.txt in your data folder for info on when the units become available / what buildings they come from. It doesn't give info on when the events occur, however. That'll be available in your data/world/maps/campaign/imperial campaign folder, in the descr_events.txt file if you play early era campaign.

I don't mind, it's more of a surprise this way.

Buildings tend to be the best option, most of time.

In EDB you can read which units are tied to which building, and which event makes them available.
