Re: Mangonel: from a deadly monster to a hair spray?

Re: Mangonel: from a deadly monster to a hair spray?
I'm surprised to hear someone complaining about the Mangonel. I find Siege Weapons to be irritating at times simply due to the slow movement on the campaign map, but for battles I find Mangonels extremely useful. The Mangonel may not immediately destroy entire units, but it almost always ends up causing massive casualties. Of course, like all my other siege weapons it may start headhunting my generals if I'm not careful. >_>.

Sometimes it grapes shots in the air and sometimes the barrels falls and kills half a unit. Not sure why does it sometimes grape shoots and sometimes not.

Re: Mangonel: from a deadly monster to a hair spray?
maybe the reason is I used CrimsonTide, I regconized the damage now is much lower than the old days, even when the barrels hit the center of the enemy.

Re: Mangonel: from a deadly monster to a hair spray?
I don't have any experience with Mangonels other than in SS, so I can't comment on them being Less effective. However, I would say the important thing is whether or not they are effective now, and I would say that they are. They are useful additions to an army, without being overpowered.

Yeah, I'm so impressed when using it in Vanilla. I once defended successfully with the mangonel firing through the wall, I was lucky when a barrel hit the enemy bloc crowded at the gate, that's a real slaughter
If you used them, you can see the difference clearly.

I always use them to defend Crusade/Jihad. They can, combined with ballista/cannon towers, take out 40-50% of a full stack before the gates are even opened. Can't complain.

Re: Mangonel: from a deadly monster to a hair spray?
I love them, but what I absolutely hate is that the men on my siege units actually seem like they're pushing the machine, the AI units on the other have a steam or gas powered version and it goes fast like infantry running at Spread formation fast. Their Siege Towers, rams and ladders are the only thing that go normal speed, their ballistas, trebuchets and catapults however are pushed by cracked up troops.
