Poll: what are your favorite fictional villains?

I've often concluded that many movies, books or games are defined by the villains, rather than the heroes (who often tend to be rather bland). Especially movies are often safed by the theatrical antics of the antagonist (face it: The Joker is the real star in Dark Knight). Hence, this poll. I'd like to encourage everyone to motivate their choice with quotes and/or footage of said bad-guys.

#4. Alan Bereford B'stard (The New Statesman)

Not even stuffed animals are safe from the corrupt and malevolent Tory-MP Alan B'stard. He wins elections by ordering hits on his rivals and fills his pockets by dumping nuclear waste below childrens playground.

#3. Agent Smith (The Matrix Trilogy)

The genocidal computer program Smith is without a doubt the best character from The Matrix. Hugo Weaving is truly a brilliant actor.

#2. Littlefinger (a Song of Ice and Fire)
,,Distrusting me was the wisest thing you’ve done since you climbed down off your horse.''

Lord Petyr 'Littlefinger' Baelish is the one man at court who is always on top of everything. He's in bed with everyone and manages to advance his cause with every coup. He may not be much of a warrior, but his witticisms (is that even a word?) alone make the books worth reading.

#1. M. Bison (Streetfighter)

No character was ever beter cast than M.Bison in the otherwise disastrous 1994 Streetfighter movie. Raul Julia really turns Bison into a crazed meglomaniac, who is intend on conquering the world with his army of genetically-enhanced supersoldiers.

How does that make him a villain though? A real douchebag yes, but not a villain in my opinion. Ah well, I guess we can just agree to disagree, eh?

We're not talking about the real Longshanks, who was a douche but whose villainy is subjective, due to him being a historical figure. The Longshanks of the film was unambiguously villainous.
Oh, and the movie, being not real life, is solidly fictional. Even if it was slavishly accurate to history, it would still be historical fiction.

First, foremost, and highest choice: The Joker. Specifically the Mark Hamill-voiced one from BTAS. In my opinion, the definitive version of the chilling yet crazy awesome villain.


Gendo Ikari. Devious, devious bastard. Cooler than the other side of the pillow, though.


Michael Corleone. Also a magnificent bastard and all kinds of awesome.


Scar. Just...Scar. "First Pride Rock...then the world", indeed.


Sovereign. "You exist because be allow it. You will end because we demand it."


Light Yagami. Completely insane, completely evil, and yet completely awesome. He can make eating potato chips into an exercise in epic villainy.


In a similar vein, Johan Liebert. If you see this man in a dark alley, Run. Like. Hell.


And, in a somewhat more obscure suggestion: Giygas, from Earthbound. Not just because he is the horrific amalgamation of all hatred and evil in the universe. But, the boss fight with him is just by far one of the most disturbing things in any interactive medium, ever. Not exactly favourite per se...but certainly one of the most impressive and terrifying.

While this thread calls for movie villains, ima have to go with Kreia from Kotor2

She looks at those brutal villains who just kill mindlessly and see's it as wasteful. she constantly teaches you the way of pure evil; knowing people are always looking for hope and you provide them with that hope, to let them build up that trust, give you everything, and then you take everything from them.

also she was interesting, your never even sure if she was a villain until the end.
