    Default Britain vs Russia wars

So I was listening to 'The Trooper' by Iron Maiden and got me thinking about the Russian-British conflicts.

So far, I know the following wars happened:

    -The Anglo-Russian War (1807–1812)
-The Crimean War (October 1853–February 1856)

    Am I missing any other?

kinda off topic: The songs is about the Crimean War?

The Seven Years War, Britain and Russia were on opposing sides.

Ahh, you beat me to it. The United States and several other countries were also involved in that.

Alongside the White Russians they fought to together, so that doesn't really count.

They had a struggle for influence in central asia from the early 19th century to the first world war, called 'The Great Game'. It almost came to war, I think because of a border dispute regarding a settlement in northwestern Afghanistan, but I can't be sure.

Wasn't the Great Game about influence in Persia?

    No, Afghanistan.

Well, not really direct opposition, but the British practically forced the Russians into a ceasefire with the Ottoman Empire in 1878 when Constantinople became threatened.

I think that was more the fault of Germany than Britain, since it was German "intervention" that forced Russia into accepting a treaty.

    To the OP:
I think all of them have been mentioned, except the Cold War. At least until 1956 Britain was one of three major parties in this political conflict.

@ Vortimore, yes, there was definitely some involvement with Persia. It actually included a vast region from the Caucasus, through Persia, Central Asia, Afghanistan, and even Chinese Turkmenistan, which today is Xinjiang.

The British used Afghanistan sort of as a buffer, and they were anxious to make your the Afghan leader was on their side because they didn't want the Russians to have easy access to the Bolan and Khyber mountain passes.

Are we talking direct conflict? Cause the Cold War had the Brits and the Russians on different sides.

Even then, there were plenty of proxy wars. The USSR directly funded the Marxist branch of the IRA during the Troubles, as well as Communist Rebels in Malaysia who we were fighting from 1948-1960, Communist Guerillas in Aden and Oman who British troops were deployed to fight and finally in the Korean war, British pilots directly engaged Russian pilots, and the North Koreans were funded and armed by the USSR.

I don't know too much about the Russo-Japanese war, but I wonder why they expected to encounter Japanese Torpedo boats in the North Sea ?
