    Default Who is the oddest god/goddess in history?

    I for one say Priapus, protector of livestock, fruit plants, gardens and male genitalia.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Priapus
    A poem about Priapus
    "Percidere, puer, moneo; futuere, puella;
    barbatum furem tertia poena manet.
    Femina si furtum faciet mihi virve puerve,
    haec cunnum, caput hic praebeat, ille nates.
    Per medios ibit pueros mediasque puellas
    mentula, barbatis non nisi summa petet."

    I warn you, boy, you will be screwed; girl, you will be ed;
    a third penalty awaits the bearded thief.
    If a woman steals from me, or a man, or a boy,
    let the first give me her , the second his head, the third his buttocks.
    My dick will go through the middle of boys and the middle of girls,
    but with bearded men it will aim only for the top.

    Well, Chinese and Japanese have a lot more interesting Gods and Goddnesses, not to mention we include so many foreign figures into our worship list (ya, Buddha).

    Freya.

    According to sources she might be a hopeless aphrodisiac (the original), patron goddess of screeching women with butcher cleavers (RTW), a gamebreaker (Valkyrie Profile) or an all-destroying missile (Code Geass).

    Oh yes, the Japanese loves Norse gods.

    Aztecs are strickly not a civilization of ancient world...

    Damned, if there is no such condition of "ancient world" I would immediately claim Khorne is the most awesome God among all.

    True, I didn't read that bit. Does ancient, medieval etc apply to the New World anyway? What are the general divisions there?

    It was generally regarding the end of WRE is the end of ancient period, which is also the start of Middle Age.

    ^^ Says teh Warhammer 40K addict.

    I'd like to counter by saying that Torm or Tyr of the Forgotten Realms are the most awesome gods of them all without the "ancient civ" restriction. You can look no further than a one-handed God of Justice for pure, undiluted awesomeness. Oh, and they both are patron gods of PALADINS, which you can see I am a big fanatic of.

    I know that.

    Forgotten Realms is well known as being the massively multiplayer crossover of each and every mythology ever.

    I thougth the only god in Medieval Era is the Christian God. Pagan, and they send the Teutonic Knights.

    I think Pagans were still kicking around in Europe right up until the relatively recent witch burning era.

    Well yeah, that's the point. I'm not sure if it's appropriate to call eras in other cultures 'medieval' except if you're only using it to designate a time period by itself.
