Console not working
Hey there!
I just got Rome to work on my new laptop after a lot of hard work, but unfortunately the console (in layman's terms, the drop down menu you enter cheats into) does not work. In most places I've installed the game, it is bound to the ~ key, but for some reason nothing comes up when I do that.
Does anybody know if there is another key it could have been bound to?

Yeah, that's happened for me, too, but I was using a PC

I'm beginning to think it might be because my laptop is so small that the keyboard doesn't have the extra num-pad to the side. Could that have anything to do with it?

that happened to me, i can no longer use the consol. As far as rember it worked until i patched from 1.3 to 1.5 but i have no idea why that would happen (i have been using a laptop the whole time)

I think it's the num-pad. It works fine on my PC computer, and it's upgraded to BI v1.6 because I installed Rome: Total Realism. It also worked on my old laptop which was big enough to have a num-pad.

Okay, I now have three possible solutions:
1. Run the program in 'administrator mode'
2. Run the program in 'compatibility mode'
3. Edit the hotkey files.
One of them is bound to work!

it can be infrared devices, it happens to my note also, you can just uninstall them at the device manager

It's not letting me edit the hotkeys. I try, and it then when I save it doesn't work.
Got any ideas?

Did you try it as admin? Vista doesn't like others than the admins to change/delete stuff in c:\programs me thinks.

ohhh that file. Ok, vista is as retarded as is possible for an operating system. Just cut the file, and past it to your desktop. It should tell you only an admin can do that, but if you click "continue" it will just let you do it. then you can edit the file, save it, and post it back into the RTW file (it will do the "only an admin can do this" thing again though.)

Found the problem!
The entire Data file is read-only. You have to go into the properties and change that to make it work. It takes about five minutes for it to update itself, so prepare for a wait.
