    Default 1 Bridge 2 battles

I had a funny battle last night in my campaign to conquer the Numidians....I had a stack besieging their capital but knew there were a couple of their armies roaming around in the general operational area so I left a small army on a bridge in my besieging armies rear to cover their asses. My bridge army (2 principes, 1 equites, general BG, 2 archers, 1 veltites, 2 ballistas) was attacked by 2 superior forces...one from the front (across the bridge) and 1 as reinforcements from my rear. Luckily the reinforcements were delayed...as usual...... so I was able to put a blocking unit on my end of the bridge and use my missile troops to crush the onslaught of the first Numdian force. Just as my Cav was crossing the bridge to chase down the fleeing mass of missile ridden enemy the reinforcements appeared in my rear!

This force was much larger than my own and more powerful than the one I just set to flight....so I sprinted my entire army across the bridge and set up my blocking position/archer formation all over again and once again slaughtered the enemy as they tried to cross the bridge.

Too funny....I successfully defended both sides of the bridge and secured a heroic victory against 2 superior forces.

My general was made "man of the hour" and happily married into my family.

    Cheers,

    Blue

Interesting? I hate rear battles the most, when I'm the one defending. However, its hilarious when I'm the attacker.

I've had that happen before, when I was playing as Carthage and going Hannibal on the Juliī, I had a full stack army fighting two Roman full stacks. Basically the same scenario as you, except I had two units that could form a phalanx to put at the end of the bridge, more archers, and a onager. It's funny how the Famous Battle marker just pops up in the middle of the bridge there afterwards.

The marker is two crossed swords. If you hover your mouse over it, a popup will appear listing the date, leaders of the two armies, and who won. The marker can be hard to see.

@OP - a fine battle. I've had similar situations. The AI is really terrible at taking advantage of such a situation.

Happened to me in EB my Roman legion during the Gaulic campian which ended effectively with the battle of Vienna.

The Roman Empire had sided with the Aedui in the Gaulic civial war making them the most powerful tribe in Gaul.As part of the deal Medolum was handed over to the Romans. The new Gaulic king felt the Treaty handing Medolum over no longer appilyed and demanded the city be handed over. The Senete told him (In a rare show of humour) to go shag a goat.

This enraged the king who ordered a raid on Narbo. The only legion in the area at the time managed to drive them off. Before a captured youth was killed(The Romans dispised Gaulic sligers)He told them of the army under the King that was joining the already huge garrison of Vienna.

The Romans decided to attack Vienna before the king could get there. The plan back fired spectacturly. As the king Hit the back of the Romans the Garrison attacked the bridge.

The result was a total loss of 20,000 Gauls vs 500 Romans dead. All of gaul fell in 10 years and the first Triumph in 60 years was awarded.

Nice, I love the advantage bridges give if you use them properly
