As long as there have been organized armies, nations have tried to distinguish their soldiers by putting them in the same clothes, as that they can identify each other. We all know this to be true, and we all also know how incredibly diverse these uniforms can be. Please post your top three uniforms: one ancient/medieval, one Renaissance/Industrial Revolution, and one Great War-Modern times (actually, the last two centuries will do), or just one or two of them. Additionally, please tell us the nation that used each uniform and the time in which they used it. Done right, this could be a lot of fun!

Ornate and impressive, these soldiers uniforms speak to their empire's power and influence. I just love the craftsmanship behind some European uniforms of this time, as they really resemble the times of transition themselves.

Maybe this is a bit too early to fit into the 'modern' category, but I couldn't help but include these men. Their uniforms combined exotic middle-eastern patterns of clothing with those of the west and the result was both unique and spectacular. These are some of the most memorable soldiers in history, in my opinion. Then, I'm no military historian.
