which roman units do you recruit?
Is there any reason that I should recruit the light infantry units like hasati, swordsman... etc once I have the ability to consistently afford and recruit the principi and triarii?
I can't remember which other roman units are missile-based besides the velites... but obviously I will keep recruiting missile units. Which do you prefer?
Thanks

The reason those units exist is to be according to history. Candelarius had a guide on roman campaigns(and by implication army compositions) so see if it`s still available:

I Think itīs good to recruit hastati... so you keep it realistic and donīt get too much overpowered.
Princepes are very very hardy

Think of the principes as the regular all around infantry, triarii as the defenders and hastati as the militia. Why would anyone recruit militia, you might think. It's because:
- good gun fodder.
- good for guarding areas that aren't likely to be attacked.
- cheap.
- good for wearing down the enemy and/or breaking their formations before they hit your second defensive line, since they can be sacrificed.
Historically hastati were the first line, meant to wear down the enemy, and fall back behind the principes once their done. Then the principes stepped in to action and if they were defeated, the last line, triarii, would have taken it from there. If they fell, the battle was lost.
