Default Slightly OT: TW Mod Odyssey

    Hi all,

I don't post much here, but this is one of my favorite mods along with EB and I thought I'd get better perspective from you guys than if I posted in the more general forums.

I want to attempt a bit of an experiment and see how much of a span of history I can play using mods for all the Total War games I own (RTW, M2TW, ETW) playing a campaign from each in order. I figured this would be a good way for me to try a variety of new mods and I wanted to get some suggestions and comments from you guys. I wish I could find more definite starting and end dates for some of these mods as it would make it easier.

Looks like the earliest I can find is:

-Aristeia (Bronze age, anyone have any comments about whether this or TTW is better?)
then my list so far goes:
    -Rise of Persia (559BC-490BC)
-Any good Alexander era mods out there?
    -Diadochi (305-250?)
-Having trouble deciding on a classical period, EB is definite favorite, but any other suggestions (maybe something that goes quicker covering 250-AD?)
-I have nothing also for the early Imperial period till IBFD
    -IBFD SPJ
    -IBFD RR
-Also looking for a good mod to cover the dark ages
-For medieval, I think I'd like to try Chivalry II SV, but I'm unsure
-Looking for a good ETW mod as well

I hope this will generate some good discussion of mods for other periods. Main concerns for me are realism, but also playability. I'm thinking mods that go quicker are better considering the period to cover. Also recommendations of factions wouldn't be out of place.

    Thanks for any comments.

Oddly enough, I just downloaded Arthurian Total War this morning which might fit the Dark Ages bracket but only from the British Isles perspective alas!

EB remains a favorite for the in-depth culture building and the quality of its build. Aristeia looks good but I don't have AlexTW so can't play it. The 250 AD period is sorely missing but Julianus Heraclius is making the first moves on a mod for the period here - in fact some early screen shots of units were posted up today in the stickied thread at the top here. Keep an eye on that mod as I am sure that by the time you have played the earlier campaigns it might be ready for release!

i agree that A:TW would be a good dark ages fit, while for the classic republican/early imperial period i recomend RS no question and by the time you reach that period RS II will probably be out

ATW, sounds like a good one. I'll add that to the list. Yeah, I'm really impressed by the visuals of RS, I've wanted to give it a shot. Thanks for the suggestions!

Awesome! I'll have to check that out.

Thanks for the very detailed suggestions Sigma. I've been looking at lot of the same mods and you also mentioned a good number I haven't heard of before. Hopefully, a few of them will be released soon so I can play them after I finish the earlier campaigns.

I can help you some here because a "TW Mod Odyssey" is one of my gaming goals as well, I have a list I keep:

-Rise of Sumer (Unreleased Early Bronze Ages mod for M2TW, timeframe 2550BC-2334 B.C. About as early as you can get really.)
-Bronze Age Total War (Unlreleased Russian mod for RTW, takes place in the late Bronze ages/Bronze Age collapse, around 1200-950 B.C. It seems to be making good progress.)
-Assyria Total War (Unreleased Iron Age mod for RTW, time period being from around 900 to 600 B.C.)
*-Rise of Persia (RTW, 559-490 B.C.)
-Hegmonia City States (Unreleased for RTW, set in Greece around the 600's to the 400's?)
*-Res Bellicae (A mod I haven't tried out yet, supposedly it has campaigns that cover from 530 B.C. to 108 A.D.)
*-Megas Alexandros (RTWA Mod, still in beta but the next version looks very promising takes place from 336 B.C. until Alexander's death.)
*-War of the Diadochi (RTWA Mod, in Beta, its sort of dead but there is people working on fan patches to fix what bugs there is 305 B.C. to about 100 B.C. I think)
*-Classical Age Total War (French RTW Mod it has an english version, in Beta, still working on some kinks but it is a fine mod, takes place from 300-0 B.C.?)
*-Rome Total Realism (RTW, 280-0 B.C.)
*-Europa Barbaborum (Everyone's favorite historically accurate RTW mod, highly scripted and detailed, 272 B.C. to 14 A.D.?)
*-Rome Surrectum (RTW, 1 covers from around 280 B.C. to early A.D. I think, 2 Will cover from the first Pontic War to early A.D. if I remember correctly)
-First Man in Rome (RTW FRRE mod, takes place from 107 B.C. during the times of Marius and goes to early A.D.? scripted)
*-77 B.C. Twilight of the Republic (RTW FRRE mod, takes place from 77 B.C. to Early A.D.? and covers late Rome and the Roman Civil War)
*-Augustus Total War (RTW, Earliest Roman Empire mod, currently the grand campaign takes place from 26 B.C. to 117 A.D. and there is the Roman Civil War mini campaigns with it as well. In early beta.)
*-4 Invasio Barbarborum Mods (Not going to list them since this is the fourm they're in, only one is not released being RESTITVTOR ORBIS which takes place from the 270's up until the mid 300's A.D. The other 3 released mods combined go from the 350's until the 550's A.D.)
*-Ruins of Glory (RTW, Focuses on Western Rome post fall in 476 A.D. up to the late 500's? still a bit buggy though.)
-Ages of Darkness II-III-IV (Unreleased RTW mods, covering from the early 500's to 1080. The Dark ages basically)
*-Autharian Total War (RTW, Dark Ages Britain 400's-late 500's A.D.)
*-Viking Invasion II/Dominion Of Britain Sub-Mod (Viking Era Britian 880's-1000's A.D.)
*-Chivalry II (M2TW, great mod, they are still adding to it, currently it spans from 800's-1500 A.D. but newer versions will have campaigns spanning from 700's to the 1600's if I remember right.)
-1648 - Der dreissigjährige Krieg (M2TW, 1618-1648 A.D. focuses upon the 30 Year War and Central Europe where it was fought.)
*-Broken Crescent (M2TW, another great mod, Covers the Middle East and surrounding areas during the times of the Crusades)
-European Wars for M2TW (If it ever gets off the ground, the revived M2TW version of this mod will cover from 1700-1800 A.D.)

    (*)=Released Mods.

    I hope this helps some.
