Icon1 Donations thanks to Stainless Steel

    Hello all

Those familiar with Rapidshare know that since the creation of the Rapidshare mirrors for Stainless Steel the (necessary) account connected to those files has been steadily collecting so called rapidpoints with every download.
This was something I ignored until I recently read that Rapidshare has introduced an option to transform those points into donations to several charitable organisations. These are:

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

The mirrors have been around for more then a year now but I was still surprised to find out that they collected "donation" points equal to about
    50€/$.
Now as it was the community that generated these points I feel that it should be the community that decides which charity they get donated to.

This is were you and this poll come into play as I would like to split up the points respectivly depending on the number of votes cast for each charity till the end of next week.
Because of this system it is possible to vote for more then one charity.

If you want to know more about each charity feel free to click on the links supplied above.

This is wonderful, thank you so much for taking the time to do this...If one down loader can make a difference imagine what every down loader on this site could do....

btw...I'd say split it equal if possible...

Let's NOT donate to the world wildlife fund. I've seriously seen some loonies from there (Prince Phillip, anyone?)

"If I were reincarnated, I would like to be returned to Earth as a killer virus to lower human population levels." - This quote is from Prince Phillip. I'm not joking. Look it up. He was even PRESIDENT of the organization once according to that chart in the wikipedia article. IMO, they're way too liberal and they scare the crap out of me. Please, for the love of God, don't donate to them. From what I know, they also support the "Theory" of Global Warming, which seems to be... Pretty wrong, imo, but those are some things you need to know before throwing your vote on them. Do not do it. X_X Please.

I honestly think we should go with SOS Children's Villages.

    Mr Tornado,

I think your missing the point with the WWF, they exist to protect wildlife, so that future generations can enjoy wildlife which is having a hard time. Forget about Prince Philip, he is just a figurehead, it is the animals that are important, not a mental Windsor!

My point is, i'd rather not give it to the a group that seems to me to be a group of loonies; I seriously doubt most of the money is helping wildlife.

Actually most places rate WWF decently as a non-profit. The SOS Children's Villages had the lowest combined ratings when I looked them up. None are above 90% of program expenses but Doctors without Borders and WWF are close. I know both some pilots and my gf's sister who is a surgeon who work with Doctors without Borders and from what I've seen that is a very good organization with relatively low expenses and most of the money going to actually making a difference.

Non-profits are weird with celebrity endorsements... almost never does it make sense to refuse even if the person in question is a bit waco. They have to be almost criminal or completely loony for it not to be worthwhile and sometimes the tiny bit loony are the best since they bring more publicity.

Knowing what I do know, I'd support Mr Tornado's recommendation, and in fact had considered posting something similar, though at a mere 50 (euros or $ ?), it's a rather minor amount and in the grand scheme of things won't go far in this world. Think of it like getting a reward of 1 or 2 florins in game

Thankfully Peta, Greenpeace or god forbid, Planned Parenthood aren't among the options on the list.

split equally I say, and if there's any left over Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth and Sea Shepherd would get my votes.

Greenpeace? God no. I've never seen a more insane organization. I wouldn't give them a penny. I think it should be split between the children's villages and doctors without borders.

Are we seriously arguing over where to spend 50 $? That's about 40 euros so it's nearly nothing. Just split it over the three. If you dislike me for saying this, please PM me as I won't visit this thread again.

Actually its 70 euros as the baseline was € and the ratio went up (ok, and I estimated on the low end).
With download reward systems there is not much to expect - considering that it is still a nice turnout.
Take it as what it is - a nice side product of downloading a great mod. I still regard this as a better solution then donating silently

Based on your votes I ended up distributing
    Doctors Without Borders 34,40€
    WWF - for a living planet 18,00€
    SOS Children's villages 19,40€

    My math:

    _______V____%____€
    Doctors_24__48___34,40
    WWF___13__25___18,00
    SOS____14__27___19,40
    Total___51__100__71,80
    Current levels:

With the rapidshare mirror dead this will be it yet "something is better then nothing".

The best Charity you can have do is joining the Zeitgeistmovement. Activist orginanizations working in the monetary system "Using money to fund their charity" Is next to useless and corrupt.
Because all they do is treat the symptoms of the disease and not the disease itself which is The monetary system "Money" Their energy could be better spent supporting and realizing the Venus Project.

The-monetary I suggest arguing for this charity elsewhere as this has nothing to do with Stainless Steel.
This was a one time thing and its completed now - thanks for your understanding.

Oh and how I'm glad that I made it. Thanks.
The point of this topic was to inform that Stainless Steel downloads generated points in some system at Rapidshare, Rapidshare enabled the option to "give" those to only those 3 charities and thats what happened.
There was never an option for your Zeitgeistmovement project (sorry, thats how it is) and the points could either be used or stay in some random system. My point is that you would have a greater effect advocating it elsewhere instead of making me regret posting about this at all instead of silently doing it as I then wouldn't have to argue about it. Feel free to continue on but know that this will be my last post here as I've asked this topic to be closed and thats how I will treat it.
