    Default Med2 vs RTW

Since the last thread on this was closed before I got to say something I made a new topic.

Med2 is fun, but it is almost the exact same thing every game, it is more realistic and balanced. IMO it is better for 1vs1s but it's team games are horrible.

RTW takes much more creativity and is much tougher to get good at as it is less balanced and their is more variety.

RTW is for the artist and Med2 is for the engineer.

I think med2 is probably better for competitive play but RTW is for and endless amount of fun games.

As an engineer I disagree with that statement and the perpetuation of engineer-artist dichotomy sterotypes!

hehe, well what I'm trying to say is med2 you know pretty much exactly what your opponent will do and your objective is to do the same only better.

RTW you never can guess what the other person does.

You can get a general idea of what they'll do in RTW usually by what faction they take. like with Britain & Egypt, you're almost certain they'll take chariots. and stuff like that. units are less exclusive in Med2, which isn't really a bad thing.
O merciful God, I have such need of Your mercy now. Not for myself, but for my knights, for this is truly their hour of need. Deliver them from their trials ahead and I will pay You a thousand fold with any sacrifice You ask of me. And if in Your wisdom, You should determine that sacrifice must be my life for theirs; so that they can once again taste the freedom that is so long been denied to them, I will gladly make that covenant. My death will have a purpose. I ask no more than that.

it is. theres little individuality in the factions. you got christians, orthodox, muslims, mongols.. thats it. unless the Aztecs are a commonly used MP faction(lol)

Medieval Total War, see the title of the game? MEDIEVAL. Catholics, Orthodox, Muslims and Mongols were the nations that existed in the MEDIEVAL time period.

M2TW is okay, but MTW in M2TW graphics would have been awesome.

Kingdoms and Retrofit 2.0 MP owns them all. Best balance, great tactical and unit variance (1vs1 and teamgames).

true 1v1 was alwayss fun.But i always found myself against 6 arch 6 heavy swords 6 hevy cav and just wedge chargethrough win. Really boring when that happens.
If you've transcended your facticity, congratulations. You're 3 transcendences from HoS.

it does, for one thing, make the factions more balanced. and it's not as if there were many radically different fighting styles in Europe & the Middle East at the time, so many nations fielded similar units and such. kind of like Alexander's successors, they used fairly similar armies and soldiers were equipped similarly (though not uniformly). You hate MTW2 and seem set on pointing out all of it's flaws, of which there are at least as many in RTW, so there's not really a point arguing with you as it's just gonna go in circles.

Except the op Cav that would make cataphracts blush with envy, the ineffectiveness of the spears, the inexistance of archer war,and the legendary lag on team games, the game is ok.

The first Retrofit was lulz ,exaclty the opposed of the Vanilla Version, inf ,archers and no cav.

1vs1 are no big deal , or the traditional 8cav,5 inf rush or the 3 ha full back strategy

    The Team games,curiously, were fun.

Spamming was the main tactic back then actually...the population of the world increased dramatically from the ancient era and nations didn't give that much crap about military tactics(they weren't really encouraged by the discovery of the crossbow, longbow, gunpowder, halberd, tempered steel)...that's why the main weapon of the era was the spear+large shield: you could train large numbers of men very fast and be efficient against most things that the enemy would throw at you(cavalry, infantry and archers thx to the large shields)...that's how the medieval era was...sad and pathetic. (Don't dream about a warrior-culture with sacred bands and spartan hoplites and fanatic pure-breed warriors)

its not the damn warriors its the lack of intelligent gameplay. RTW just has an undeniably larger tactical scale than MTW2 if you play it long enough to learn those.
