installing bi prevents rtw from working, please help

As the title states, I have installed barbarian invasion and much to my dismay, it somehow disallows rtw from even getting to the point of a load screen. In my perusal of various threads which bear some relevance to the topic, I have discerned that it may be a result of the two games being incompatible by virtue of their versions or potentially their place of purchase. I have a heavily modded version 1.2 of rtw of which the modded files include the map (magnus mundi), export_descr_unit, preferences and others I cannot recall. Does anyone here have some insights as to what could be the cause of this and how to effectuate a remedy?

I thank you in advance for your time and consideration and hope that the collective wisdom of the game experts here can reveal the solution.

Thank you for your swift reply, sir. However, I have already done that and it results in the same problem subsequent to installing both games. Would it be logical to assume that the incompatibility arises from the modifications to the original game files? I've removed the "bi" folder from the rome main directory and it still has no effect. Any further suggestions? Thank you again.

hmm try getting rid of any mods then if that still dosnn't work try running rtw as a administrator

Thank you again for your input. I would really prefer not to have to do without the mods on rtw, as I've really become accustomed to playing it as is. Could you please explain what you mean by saying running it as an administrator? Thanks again.

Moved to Tech Help

Just so you know, BI patches RTW to 1.6, and from the sound of it you have 1.2 installed, so I'd try getting RTW to 1.5 before installing BI. If you want to keep and use 1.2 mods, use multiple installs.

Thank you for rendering assist on this Hader. I do believe the update is what is causing the problem. I guess I'll just have to forgo the convenience and pleasure of having the two greatest TW games (IMO) mutually accessible and ready to go. Thanks again.

As Hader mentioned it's possible to have both RTW 1.2 and RTW 1.5 on your PC at the same time.

1) install RTW and patch it to 1.2
2) take a copy of the 'Rome - Total War' folder and copy it to a folder at the same level - call it RTW 1.2 or similar
3) patch RTW (in the original 'Rome - Total War' folder) up to 1.5 and then patch it with RTW BI.

You will find that some patches will only install onto the original folder.
