What am I refuting in a fantasy anime?

Eh, take everything anime/manga tells you with a grain of salt. More often than not the morality as it mentions is a product of common sense rather than scientific or logical reasoning. Makes sense for entertainment but not all that good for a serious discussion.

Unless, of course, we are talking about seriously distubring works like Kodomo no Jikan.

Or Bigfoot Gen. Or Grave of the Fireflies. Or Evangelion.
Or the serious-yet-not-quite-disturbing masterpieces of Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki.

Suffice it to say- while a lot of anime is entertainment with a thin glaze of philosophy, there are plenty of serious (and some comedic and even heartwarming) works that tackle philosophical and moral questions.
