Default Help required - RTR Gameplay Tips!!

    Greetings RTR Fans,

Anyone who has played Fate of Empires will have noticed that we replaced the quotations on the loading screens with Gameplay Tips. We did this primarily because we were tired of reading the same quotes over and over again and we thought that the space could be put to better use by adding tips that would hopefully be of use to both novice and veteran players alike. Because FOE has many new systems, some of the tips were dedicated to explaining these, while others were more general in nature.

While we did add quite a few tips, there's plenty of room for more, and that's where you as RTR fans come in. With your help, we hope to at least double the amount loading screen tips so as to offer more variety as well as cover a broader range of hints that will help the player both in the campaign as well as in battle.

If you have a tip that you think would be of help to a fellow player, post it in the same format as the ones below. If we like your tip it will be included in RTR VII!

I've included the current in game tips so as to avoid a duplication of effort.

NOTE: The tips can't have more characters than the following line!
    A0123456789B0123456789C0123456789D0123456789E0123456789F0123456789G0123456789H0123456789I0123456789J0123456789K01234567
Gameplay Tips currently Ingame Build up your government as fast as possible when you conquer a new region
If you don't do this, it will be very difficult to integrate the settlement in your empire

Decide carefully which economic buildings you are going to build
You might run into problems in long campaigns if badly managed

Remember to quit the campaign script before you start a new campaign
You can do this by clicking on the question mark in the menu scroll

If you have loaded a previous campaign, then don't forget to restart the background script
You can do this by clicking on any of your settlements on the campaign map

Always make sure to not leave your capital undefended
If you lose it, your empire might eventually fall apart!

In battle, always make sure to keep some reserve
Otherwise a breach in your line might cause the enemy to win

If you can, kill the enemy general early on
This might cause a rapid loss of morale with your opponent and grant you victory

Cavalry is expensive and extremely valuable, so don't use them too early in the battle
Keep them till both main battle lines have clashed and then make your move around the enemy flanks

A large army can be a drain on fragile economies
Don't be afraid to disband expensive units if they aren't being used

Obtain raw materials for your industries before you construct workshops
Without raw materials, you won't be able to upgrade your workshops beyond the most basic level

Use spies to scout ahead when your armies have to leave the roads
Only roads are certain to offer passage through mountainous terrain and forests

Station fleets at strategic positions to reduce the risk of naval invasions
Fleets tend to remain in visual contact with the coast and only traverse open seas over short distances

Be aware that only major settlements offer the possibilities of economic growth and recruitment
On the strategic map, major regions have their names written in upper case

Be aware that minor settlements do not offer the possibilities of economic growth and recruitment and often lack defensive structures
On the strategic map, minor regions have their names written in lower case

Pay attention to the terrain you camp your armies on if you want to avoid nasty surprises
Cultivated ground is likely to be open and level, but hills and woodland can be rough and densely forested

Use archers before you begin close combat
Missile fire not only inflicts casualties on enemy, but it makes his troops tire more quickly and decreases their morale

Choose proper ground for your troops
Otherwise even elites will not carry the day

Keep your general near the weakest troops in your army
Your general's presence can be the deciding factor in whether your troops rout or not

If you are running out of options, throw your missile troops around the flanks of the enemy and charge!
This should only be used as a last resort

New Gameplay Tips Watch the culture!
Capturing cities from factions that you share a culture with will make it easier to integrate those cities.

If you defend everything you defend nothing
So be sure to obtain a ceasefire with an enemy if you find your Empire too large to defend.

Make sure you obtain trade rights from multiple factions.
It'll help you economy greatly, and it'll prevent your economy taking a nosedive if you enter into a war with a trading partner

Keep the flanks of your phalanx secure.
Their long spears are their protection. Hoplites make excellent flank security.

Attack where it is unexpected, and be unexpected when you attack.
Sometimes entire battles can be won against armies in superior nummbers by charging their forces while they are positioning before the battle.

    Allow your cities to grow.
If you recruit too much from one area, it will take much longer for the city to grow.

    Remember, peace is quite profitable.
You don't have to always be at war.

The culture of a different faction makes it difficult to integrate a new settlement.
Use family members, agents, regions, and buildings to help convert the population.

Garrisons don't need to be large.

One strategically placed army can do the work of many garrisons.

It's not a good idea to fight powerful factions early.
Build up your territory with rebel settlements first.

Mini regions have little economic value, and are quite loyal.
Don't place governors in these regions.

Cavalry can't stand up to infantry in close combat.
Make sure you withdraw them after a charge

Thanks for your tips, Finn Some are really useful for FoE...I might say to survive hehe

What effect does it have when I built up for example the 'lumber-industry', although in that region is no lumber resource symbol? Do I earn more or is it just wasted money?

The lumber industry (and stone as well btw) shorten construction times of buildings (even though it's not shown in the list of effects!!). Given that you either have a local resource or an imported resource... If you don't have either of those, you won't be able to construct the lumber industry beyond the grey building, meaning you can't waste your money on it except for the few denarii of the grey one

I am new here, but can "take the towers by a siege as fast as possible,
this will reduce the casulties made by them." be a tip for use?

There is not a tip about diplomatic (or spies), and those can be of very good use.

something like.... "If you defend everthing you defend nothing,
so ceasefire if you don't want war anymore "

or.... " try trading with more than one faction,
it produce money and your incomes won't drop immeditely by a war with a traded faction "

Thanks for the tips ier! I'm not sure about the siege one though, as it's pretty obvious to most of us that if you dilly dally while attacking settlements with stone walls your going to get shot up pretty bad.

However, I do like your other two and I'll add them to the OP with a wee bit of tweaking

Edit: Added tips to OP, and ier, let me know if my tweaking of your tips are in keeping with the points you were trying to get across.

    How is that, compatriots?

Passing on to describe the way in which Napoleon employed ‘principles’ or ‘ingredients’ for the prosecution of War, it must from the outset be understood that his strategical and tactical systems followed no closely ruled pattern. Every operation was unique; no two were ever quite the same. However, the underlying every Campaign and battle were certain fundamental, which were applied according to circumstances.
‘Strategy is the art of making use of Time and Space,’ wrote the Emperor”

    Salve Magister...

Spies and Assassins will demoralize the enemy, Incite riots in his regions and rebellion in his ranks.

Diplomacy can be a sword, Allied attacks from the flanks will distract and delay the enemy.

Diplomacy is a double blade, Bribe a far enemy region, and then negotiate it for gain with another.

Train Assassins on spies and diplomats, keep the enemy blind and your people loyal.

Moving generals in and out of settelments may reveal enemy spies.

Delay and split enemy campaign advancement with single units to harass and retreat.

Generals and cavalry taunting the fringe of an enemy advance may divide his battle-line.

Treasury drained ? Attack !!! Dead soldiers draw no pay, and looting fills the coffers.

Biological warfare begins, spies with the plauge can carry it to the enemy.

Region over-populated and hard to control? import the plauge to calm it down.

Don't end battle prematurely if there are many enemy in the field. Harvest them !

Spies and Assassins are important prerequisits to siege, use them.

Suprise reduces morale, draw a larger enemy into a forested ambush.

A generals inspiration is more important than his sword, use him wisely.

Paying a very small seasonal tribute to a faction may keep it peaceful much longer.

Bait elephants with a dense weak line, javalins hidden in the grass behind. Suprise ! Spears !

Enslaving enemies increases imperial population significantly, and people pay taxes.

Micro-management increases efficiency, and every gold is golden.
