Default House Healthcare Vote (Passed 219-212)

I don't see a thread about this yet...

    http://www.cnn.com/2010/POLITICS/03/...ex.html?hpt=T1

According to some reports the Democrats already have enough votes because Stupak was guaranteed an executive order against abortion being paid for by the taxpayer. Of course Republicans are in a frenzy to oppose healthcare reform and continue to be the "party of no" (really, what's changed?) so long as Democrats are in power.

What do you think? Will the bill pass? Do you want it to?

What you mean by an executive order against abortion. Abortion coverage is already excluded from the bill so I dont know what you mean.

And unless this procedure is life threatening to the mother I dont really see the need for tax payer coverage for it.

It's funny because they won't be because it only covers legal residents and explicitly states that. But this is what I come to expect from blind opponents to the bill, really.

I think it's funny that Republicans are now arguing in favor of regulating the healthcare industry when their main criticism of this bill has been government control of the free market. Republicans had 8 years, and in those 8 years, they deregulated Wall Street (and we all see how that turned out). Now you guys want to pretend like you want to regulate? Please, give me a ing break. You can't make an about-face after 8 years of saying something and expect not to be called out on your BS.

    Why?

sure, let it pass. It will save a lot of money in the long run (according to congressional budget office) than the current system, plus it gives more coverage. So why not?

CBO isn't sure one way or the other really. It could save money, but that's about as likely as it costing more. CBO analysis, or bill analysis in general tends to be a very static event where numbers are based on a realtively unchanging world.

If it could save money it wouldn't require a massive tax increase.

A nation is judged by how it's worst off are cared of, not the 1% who earn 900k dollars a day and only play 13% in taxes.

Ummmm, if you make that much you are taxed nearly 50%. Sooo, no.
also, I believe that the first 30,000 a person makes, they don't have to pay income tax on it. There are so many taxes.

Also, do you ever wonder why people who want good care go to America? Remember that one canadian official who went to america, not canada for medical treatment. That is because America's hospitals and doctors are of higher quality. Universal Healthcare is destroying the medical business.

I used to want to be a doctor, but now I realize that it will not be worth the effort.

Neither have you though. Instead we trust the analysis by the CBO.
