Case modification + PSU advise
Hi guys;
I'm trying to get this combo:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...39&subcat=1675
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...56&subcat=1502
but before I will buy them I need to ask you guys few questions:
Q1 - Do you think that ThermalTake 650W power supply will be enough to run it? on top of this combo I have 2 HDD and 2 DVD Writers and TV card (which I can actually unplug as I'm not using in this moment)
Q2 - My PSU have big fan located at the bottom of unit - so far it wasn't a big problem but new mobo + overclocked CPU will be located directly under fan - so my question is can turn upside down my PSU unit and cut a my case so heating will be directed outside case rather than inside? I will also install of of those dust proof filters
This a picture of my PSU:

Q3 - because my case is standard with just 1 small fan on the side, I would like to buy 2 big (120mm) fans and install them on the side of the case, but how I will plug them to PSU?

Some of the fans are 3 - pins, some of them are without any informations. Which cable is exactly 3 - pin in my case? or should I buy one of those fans controllers, which as far as I understand are connected by 1 cable to PSU and all fans are getting energy from this controller, who can I that way adjust the speed how fast they are running? Is that assumption correct?
Also do you think that those 2 fans are going to be enough to remove all this heat from inside? Or should I rather buy new case like that one:

Also where in UK I can buy transparent side panel as I'm thinking about to buy few of those LED things which looks very nice in dark evenings

Q1 - Do you think that ThermalTake 650W power supply will be enough to run it? on top of this combo I have 2 HDD and 2 DVD Writers and TV card (which I can actually unplug as I'm not using in this moment)
A1 - A Core i7 930 overclocked to 4Ghz with a HD5870 VapourX with the sort of hardware your quoting will draw 330w to 380w at load. When your playing games neither your video card or CPU is running at full load all the time so a total power draw of 330w-340w is more likely. At this level your PSU is at it's sweet spot as it will running at around 50% load which is means it will be at it's most efficient.
Q2 - My PSU have big fan located at the bottom of unit - so far it wasn't a big problem but new mobo + overclocked CPU will be located directly under fan - so my question is can turn upside down my PSU unit and cut a my case so heating will be directed outside case rather than inside? A2 - Your PSU fan is 'pulling' air from the inside of your case and venting it out the honeycomb back so in order to do what you want it do (direct air outside of the case by cutting out a hole and turning it upside down) you will nee to undo the PSU and turn the fan around which I wouldn't recommend doing as even when your PSU is off it still holds an electrical charge which could kill you if your touch the wrong part of it with a metal screwdriver (conductive). Your better off leaving the fan in pull mode so it draws in cooler air from the outside to cool down the heatsink in the PSU itself. Also why is this suddenly a problem? Why do you feel the need to change it all around with your new setup and now your old setup? Just keep it like it is there nothing wrong with having a PSU fan drawing air from inside your case.
Q3 - because my case is standard with just 1 small fan on the side, I would like to buy 2 big (120mm) fans and install them on the side of the case, but how I will plug them to PSU?
Normally you plug them into motherboard 3 pin headers but you can plug them into your PSU, normally fans come with a 4pin to 3pin adaptor to allow you to do this however I would recommend getting a fan controller and plugging them all into that otherwise the fans will just run at full speed all the time which makes a lot noise!
As for the Zalman case when I first saw it last month I thought Zalman had sold their soul and were going down the budget route which was a shame because I'm a huge fan of Zalman however after looking at this video product demonstration I have to say given the price this case has just everything you could ask for it's a shame they don't have the PSU at the bottom but the rest of case makes up for that and more so on the face of it I would say go for it!
