    Default Dwarven Farms Building Description

I'm looking for new descriptions and names for the new dwarven food production buildings since they do not deal with crops. Example:

    Tier: 1

    Name: Land Clearance

Description: Land Clearance is the first step on the road to establishing organised farming in the countryside, and ensuring that a region will begin to grow and prosper. Though there is little more to land clearance than deforestation and basic tilling of the soil, any area where the local establishment has not taken such measures to make the land workable will struggle to feed its populace.

Short description: Land Clearance allows a region to begin producing enough food to encourage growth.

Here are the buildings to serve as inspiration:

    tier2

    tier3

    tier4

Name: Pig Farm ( prize winning originality)

Description: Pig farms provide the Dwarves with their favourite food, salted pork. Dwarves are not great farmers but when it comes to growing pigs, they have no rivals. The pigs are fed entirely on wild acorns and what other food they can snuff up from the oak forests surrounding the Dwarven settlements. The meat is salted and hanged to dry in well-hidden caverns, deep in their mountains.

it is rumoured that Elves are staying in Middle Earth for this delightful goodiness.

Short description: Pig farms provide your region with much-needed meat to encourage growth.

Roast beef in the movies I'm going to check the book for the exact reference...

I can"t imagine dwarves farming cows, pigs are easier to grow. and don't require a lot of pastures....

But Ho god how pig "farms" stinks... I can t imagine growing pigs in closed environment.
Better they grow nothing and import everything.

Don't worry, I meant nothing by it. Your description was quite fitting. I was just making a movie reference joke towards Pippin and Gimli in the beginning of The Two Towers.

Tolkien said that the dwarves are based off of Jews... so is a pig farm really proper?

    I'll give it a go...

    Name: Swine Farm/Pig Farm

Description: Since they live underground, Dwarves do not grow their own food supplies if they can help it, but rather usually obtain food through trade with Elves and Men. Dwarven and human communities often form relationships where the Men are the prime suppliers of food, farmers and herdsmen, while the Dwarves supply tools and weapons, road-building and construction work. Though Dwarves are not fond of cultivating their own crops from the earth, they do however want to breed and maintain swine herds in farms not far from their underground halls, commonly used for their meat and thick leather; for they know that having easy access to salted pork supplies is especially valuable in times of war, when the trade routes are no longer safe.

Short description: Swine Farms provide the Dwarven cities with necessary food supplies and increase the population happiness.

Pig Farm: Pig farms provide a sustainable food resource to supplement the diet of the Dwarves, as living underground agricultural development is severely limited in Dwarven culture. With pig farms the Dwarves managed to bypass the need for large swathes of land for agriculture as all that is needed is swill for the pigs, easily acquired at low prices and in bulk from those that trade with the Dwarves. Being very adaptable, sociable creatures with an omnivorous diet pigs are well suited to underground habitation.

    Another story...

Anyway, in all seriousness, is this going to be some sort of description-contest?

Not really a contest, I'll pick the descriptions I think are the best and include them in my sub mod and there is also a good chance that it will be included in the 1.5 patch.

+rep to everyone who submitted a description, looking forward to the description for the other tiers.

    Tier 1: Small pig farm
Description: Growing plants are not the way of the dwarf. We are not some tree loving elves. We like the taste of meat! So we grow pigs. The profession of pig farmers is a honoured one. Because the love of our pork meat is only matched by our love of mining and chopping orc head.

Ours pigs have a good life. Because you will taste the difference when you eat your pig. The find there own food in the woodlands outside our mountain. It is much like herding sheep. The only thing we have to do is to keep them on our lands. When the pork is fat enough, it gets slaughtered. We salt the pork and hang them deep in the caves of our mountain. This is to keep them from rotting.

Short description: a small pig farm allows the mine to begin producing enough food to encourage growth.

    Tier 2: Big pig farm
Description: When a simple dwarven mine grows into something that you can call a underground village, the need of food grows with it. More and more pigs are breed to provide enough meat to feed the hard workers of the mine.

The pig farm itself has been giving a transformation. We can now use the chimney to smoke-dry the meat. To give the hard working miners some variation to eat.

Short description: a big pig farm allows the mine to produce enough food to keep the miners happy and to produce fed warriors.

    Tier 3: Huge pig farm
Description: The mine is becoming a real city by now and the need of a bigger pig farm is unavoidable.
When the dwarves came at a point were they could not provide enough food for the miners and warriors, they needed a plan to get fatter pigs. A way that they would grow faster. They began to try different feeding programs till it was perfected.

With the growing wealth of the residents of the mine, the dwarves were able to extend the building to build a big butchery witch will increase the production even more.

Short description: a huge pig farm allows this underground city to produce a big army of miners and warriors.

    Tier 4: Pig factory
Description: The days of the mine are far past us now. Our halls are wide and famous for there craft. But our biggest achievement is our people. We were with few first, but now thousands call these halls there home.

Our people are wealthy and we want so much pork and beer that it was unavoidable for the pig farms to become a real food industry. Our farmers and butchers are the most skilled in the world. Because no one eats with so much enjoyment then the dwarves. Because, how can you fight on a empty stomach?

Even trade is becoming an option for us. Our salted pork will surely be worth something to our allies of Dale.

Short description: a pig factory allows this underground metropolis mine to feed every one. From the smallest miner to the greatest warrior.

well those are my descriptions. if you want to use some pieces or just use some ideas of this. great
maybe my english is not good every where but it's not my mother tongue. so you can edit if you like.

i also would like to say. lovely looking building you got there!! how do you make those may i ask?

hmm i dont want this thread to go down. i would like to hear what the rest thinks of my descriptions! give some feedback.

    Pig Stand (tier one)
Long: A temporary home for the pigs the dwarves rely on for the food supply of their city's. It gives a small bonus to the population growth in the settlements it is constructed. As this building is only temporary it should be improved as soon as funding is available.
Short: a Pig Stand provides your region with much-needed meat to encourage growth. (From Plumo, best IMO)

    Pig shed (Tier two)
Long: When dwarves build something they build it well. This strong stone building referred to by the dwarves as a shed but considered by the humans as a dwelling fit for a men is used to house the pigs the dwarves use as a food supply for their settlements. It is not a long term solution but will feed your people well until the cities grow larger.
Short: A Pig Shed provides your region with a more stable food supply. This will encourage population growth.

    Pig Barn (Tier three)

Long: A permanent building build to house enough pigs to feed entire city's. This network of barns will provide enough food to feed even the largest of city's. The pigs are well protected and have a large amount of space to move around. The dwarves that tend to these creatures are part of the finest farmers in the world and some even sacrifice their lives to prevent these animals from falling into orc hands.
Short: A Pig Barn provides your region with a more stable food supply. This will encourage population growth.

    Pig Farm (Tier four)
Long: A castle fit for kings. By constructing this building the dwarves show they are the true masters of construction and mining. The farm is decorated with gold and jewels to provide the best housing for the best pigs selected from the entire region. These pigs are tended to with utmost care to make sure they provide the best meat for the dwarven feasts.
Short: A Pig Farm increase the quality of food for dwarven feasts. This will encourage population growth en make the inhabitants of cities happier.
