    Default Empire or Napoleon?

Hey guys big fan of Rome and Medieval TW here. I just got a new computer that should handle either Empire or Napoleon fine so I was wondering which one to buy? I am attracted to Empire with the larger campaign map and more factions but I've read about all the bugs. If that's the case, is Napoleon more stable and a better purchase?
    Thanks for the help.

    Hi there.
It depends on what you want of the game. If you want to make your own empire, and fight great battles versus a great many enemies, Empire is your game. If you only wants to play in Europe, in a one-man, Napoleon, based game, Napoleon is your game.
And Empire fully patched, and all the DLC's installed, is a very good game with very few real "bugs" left. And the (hopefully) upcoming patch 1.6 should make the game's battle AI better, making for an even better experience.
I would personally take Empire if I was to guide you towards the besty game of the two. And I do have Napoleon too just to avoid that part of the topic.

    QFT.
    To put it another way:
If you mostly enjoy expanding and managing your Empire, get ETW which has the much greater scope in the campaign and has more factions.
Almost every other aspect (battles in both gameplay and immersion, balancing between unit types, campaign gameplay) is superior in NTW.

it all depends on how much money you want to spend.

ETW can be bought cheap then you have to buy all the "exspansion" packs which means it comes in same cost as NTW

buy NTW for a better overall gameplay and much better multiplayer battles BUT be warned within a few weeks they will start the spam of the "exspansion" packs which will make game become a lot more exspencive in the long term.

personally if you but a TW game now you kinda got to commit to it and buy all the marketing packs that are now spammed to make game worthwhile and balanced online, if you prefer to casual then i suggest NTW then dont bother with exspansions as NTW is much better orginal game than ETW

Napoleon is a far better game imo

like someone stated before Grand battles and intercontinental empire = Empire. Europe battles and better uniform = Napoleon.

I like both, but i prefer Empire over NTW since it is more expansive than NTW. Plus how can you not love wiping out 1/4 of the enemy's force with quicklime on ETW?

Can anyone explain exactly what features Napoleon has over Empire, apart from the story fluff, scripted campaigns, bink videos, etc. What are the stone cold gameplay changes?

    • Foreign territory attrition
    • Supply limitations
    • Home territory trickle replacement
    • ???

    • Foreign territory attrition
I'm sure you know, but that happens when you march your army through special terrain (desert or mountains) in special conditions (heat or cold, respectively). Your units will lose men per turn.

    • Supply limitations
    • Home territory trickle replacement
That's the same thing, sort of.
You don't replenish your troops by selecting a button; this happens automatically while your units are in one of your cities/towns or in an army with a general and in one of your regions.
You can build supply depots in towns to speed up the rate of replenishment (per turn).

Additionally, there are more diplomacy options: you can ask a faction to stop trading or enter war with another one.
Also, you now have a "change building type" button so you don't have to tear down a building first and then rebuild one of another type later.
You can repair ships during battle now (stopping them fighting, of course) and on the campaign map, outside of ports (I think).

Can't think of anything else right now... but everything just feels smoother in NTW.

    Hi there.
Personally I hate the new retraining system. At least they could give us a two-turn Retrain Buttom when inside own lands.
Among many things, the thing I hate second most, is the building selection and the poor choises for managing buildings in cities/towns.

Ah, yeah the "building switcher." More diplomacy options seems like another good real change. Repairing ships post battle is something Empire does automatically, seems rather arcade to be able to do it at will during battle or out at sea. Any realism mod would nerf the repair rate as well; I'm sure it's very "casual friendly" in vanilla. Attrition and supply will be missed but not too much.

The first thing that i thought about Napoleon is, that game must be ** .
I thought a game with only one europe map and small timeline could never be better than Empire, but after one month i decided to play it, and i can say you one thing, Empire is a creepy , Napoleon is in all ways much better than Empire, it have all features i ever want from Empire.
CA give totally up with Empire, today i play it the last time with the new BAI Patch but its still no challenge for the AI and BAI of Napoleon.
Dont waste your time with empire, buy Napoleon and have your optimized fun.
