    Default Fermi pricing and specs

    Source

    GTX470 $350

    GTX480 $500

IF this is true than the GTX470 is a better deal than the 5850. I'm crossing my fingers as I'd really like a pair of fermi's. Nvidia has not yet denied this price claim unlike the last time when the speculated prices were much higher.

Beat you to it on TWC.

How much do you bet as soon as they're released the 5850 will drop back down to $299? And March 26th will be a paper launch, thats something else I would be inclined to bet on if I was a betting man.

And the fact that the TDP is so high is worrying. An extra 75 watts to beat the 5850? That's weaksauce.

I posted this before I saw your post, anyway you didn't create a thread

All 5800 series card prices have skyrocketed since release, either fermi will go up straight away as well or ATI will be given a run for they're money. I'd be amazed if the 5800 series falls back to retail prices in the next couple months, they can't even keep many of the cards in stock.

Fermi will either skyrocket or ATI will lower in price. You can grab some 5870s under the MSRP now, same for 5850. The general trend is that prices are getting lower for them. Prices skyrocketed because the demand was there but supply wasn't, and if you think that the supply for Fermi will match the demand, or at least be adequate enough to prevent a massive skyrocket, then you are lacking in knowledge on GPU graphics chips. The Fermi die size is estimated about 530mm^2, while that of Cypress, the chip in the 5870, is about 338mm^2. That means nVidia gets less chips per useable wafer than ATI, and if TMSC has problems getting useable wafer, that means nVidia will be getting less cards in the market compared to ATI. Either ATI's pricing will go back down to MSRP, or nVidia's prices will skyrocket, just as ATI's did.

If ATI can't keep up with demand then they certainly aren't going to cut prices.

Yet you expect nVidia to be able to keep their cards at these prices?

What's the retail price on the 5850's? (Sorry, live in Australia, don't know the US prices).

In any case, I can imagine a small decrease in 5850/5870 prices, doubt it will fall to $299 but I can also imagine that custom PCB and aftermarket cooling cards may see lower prices too. A Sapphire Vapor-X/Toxic edition within, say, $15-$20 of Fermi stocks would be appealing to quite a few people. That 5%-10% difference in performance can easily be made with OC and the lower power consumption + better cooling system may pay for itself. Hell, Powercolor's custom PCS+ 5850 already goes for $320-$330 on newegg.

A good one with a good warranty (XFX Lifetime) goes for $350. Nvidia's cards have more features and therefore more value to begin with, if the price is tied then the GTX470 is the better deal. Although until official benchmarks come out this is all speculation as to price/performance/quality.

Well, I can imagine that 5850 prices will drop to the $320-$330 US mark, and probably aftermarket 5850's will drop in price too, like I said, a stock GTX 470 may not sound so attractive if it can be matched by a Toxic 5850 in price and performance with overclock, especially if the GTX 470 is going to be power hungry and hotter due to it's higher TDP.

Though, you're right, until official benchmarks and reviews come out, it's all speculation and we won't know for sure about anything we've heard or seen. Except maybe boxart.

If the results end up looking good though, I may decide to buy the GTX 470 instead of the 5850 I originally planned on getting.

    The pricing sounds good man.

Maybe I don't need to go Ati after all.

I wonder if the 10.2 and 10.3 Catalyst Drivers change the benchmark results. We might not see that 5-10% difference in performance if ATI launches the proper drivers just before the launch.

That difference is speculation anyway until we see some real data.

True enough but the 470/480 look so awesome for reference designs, the protruding heatpipes on the 480 look epic (maybe it's just me though). I can't help but want benchmarks and reviews sooner, which leads me to lots of speculation in the meantime.

That story is from Toms which is directly linked to the original story on VR Zone who have know updated the article.

Sorry, it should be 480 SP. My source got a little mixed up. They are too busy making the cards right now I heard the retail availability got delayed but the launch still stands on March 26th for now. NV will decide tonight whether to push back the launch date. There will be enough cards to go around i heard.

Updated with final clocks too :

    GeForce GTX 480 : 480 SP, 700/1401/1848MHz core/shader/mem, 384-bit, 1536MB, 295W TDP, US$499

    GeForce GTX 470 : 448 SP, 607/1215/1674MHz core/shader/mem, 320-bit, 1280MB, 225W TDP, US$349
    Link

So it's almost a given now Nvidia have had to change the spec of the top model Fermi because of yield and or power issues as it was originally meant to have 512 SP. The TDP of the GTX 480 is.............high to say the least at that level it ought to be competing with the Radeon HD5970 which for the record only has a TDP of 292w but it's price would indicate it's performance falls between the HD5870 & HD5970.

The GTX 470 looks like an interesting buy $349 would mean a retail price of £249 here in the UK which isn't that much more expensive then the HD5850 which is still retailing at £230 - £30 over it's original MRSP.

I would also like to point out that ATI simply has to release a refresh ala 4890, and they can make that 5-10% back quite easily.

Still early, but I know someone who will buy my XFX 5850 for $280. So $70 to get back to GeForce is mouth watering. Must be done...

One other thing to note, if this report is accurate then it proves fermi is not a power hungry card, the GTX275 is essentially half of a GTX470 (240 CUDA cores vs 448) and the GTX470 only requires 6 more watts to power it, (225 watts for the 470 vs 219 watts for the 275). Granted it's still a higher power requirement than the 5800 series but it's a negligible jump over the GTX200 series.
