If you went to 5870 clocks and stopped there, I think the performance difference is then only 3%. So a 3% increase for $100 more...
I just use ATI overdrive and max out the clocks (775/1125). Even then, Ive never seen the fan go above 29%. Or you could use something like MSI afterbruner to go beyond what ATI overdrive will allow. But in doing that, the low power states that clock down the card when not running a 3d application, wont work. So if you went up to 800/1200, you would be there constantly. And unless you want to get silly and toy with voltages and unlocking your bios, there really is no point.
