Default Spilt pop into my PC...

I was rushing and there was a bottle of pop on the edge of my desk and my Elbow hit it and it tipped over and spilt half a bottle of pop into my pc... my heart stopped.. I instantly turned off my PC and unplugged it hoping it wasn't too late. My case is the HAF932 so it's open topped and has a fan on the top. The pop spilled right ontop of the fan. I opened up my case and looked inside amazed to see only a few drops on my GPU... I wiped it off HOPING TO GOD my GPU was not broken, some pop was also in my CPU heatsink but I got most of it out. anyways... I turned on my PC later that night and everything is working fine.

I've never been so scared in my life. D:

That stinks. I would never tell my wife if I did something like that. She would look at me and ask, "What did you do that for?"

Then a domestic issue would ensue.

    How much was that system?

Well, I didn't buy it all at once.

    GPU is 700
    CPU was 350
    Mobo was 200
    RAM was 110
    HDD1 was 250
    HDD2 was 70
    PSU was 210
    Case was 180
    CPU cooler was 90

    So uh, Roughly $2150 Canadian.

How are you enjoying that 5970?

Is there a way to OC my 5850 that's easy? If so is the only difference between the 5850 and 5870 clock speed?

You have to unlock the bios to get to 5870 clocks. Not worth the trouble IMO. But you can actually go well beyond 5870 specs if you then toy around with the voltage.

If you went to 5870 clocks and stopped there, I think the performance difference is then only 3%. So a 3% increase for $100 more...

I just use ATI overdrive and max out the clocks (775/1125). Even then, Ive never seen the fan go above 29%, which is barely audible. Or you could use something like MSI afterbruner to go beyond what ATI overdrive will allow. But in doing that, the low power states that clock down the card when not running a 3d application, wont work. So if you went up to 800/1200, you would be there constantly. And unless you want to get silly and toy with voltages and unlocking your bios, there really is no point. The benefits are small.

You have some experience with ATI cards... are there any tools similar to what Nhancer does for Nvidia cards (forced AA settings for games like Mass Effect that don't support AA, custom crossfire and Vsync settings)?

I have considered getting a couple 5850's for crossfire but if I can't add AA for games Like Mass Effect it wouldn't be worth it for me.

Before anyone thinks hes some lucky rich boy, he got this from working at Dairy Queen and then eventually another job that he saved up. Being 16 years old is like that sometimes.

Yes. The official Catalyst Control Center and the official NVIDIA Control Panel (no need for Nhancer unless the CP doesn't work for you for some reason) both have this. ATI also has a far superior third-party tool developed by a guy named Ray Adam's called ATI Tray Tools, which is lighter and more feature rich than CCC.

    Yes, you can force AA.

    Thanks

If fermi doesn't compete well price/performance-wise then I'll go with ATI for a change.

The 5850 lost a couple of TMU , so it has a few less shaders and processing cores, but you can still overclock it to near 5870 levels quite easily.
