Default 508.74 meter with a traditional bow (new archery record)

There was a standing record from 1226 with 502,5 meter distance. It was shot by a Mongol guy (Esunkhi?).
This distance record was overshot by six meter in the last few days in Hungary. The new traditional bow record is 508,74 by Josef Mónus. The bow was created by Josef Mónus the arrow was created by Csaba Grózer.

784 years was need to overshot!!!
I'm just surprise how Mongolian traditional bow technique was so high in 13th century!

On his deathbed, hungarian John Hunyadi told his countrymen:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
"Defend, my friends, Christendom and Hungary from all enemies... Do not quarrel among yourselves. If you should waste your energies in altercations, you will seal your own fate as well as dig the grave of our country."

Only rumenian extremists claim that John Hunyadi was rumenian! John Hunyadi's father was Vajk his brother name was Magos, John's brother name was also Vajk both name Vajk&Magos are ancient hungarian names!

    Two words: Flight Arrow.
    "Mors Certa, Hora Incerta."

"We are a brave people of a warrior race, descendants of the illustrious Romans, who made the world tremor. And in this way we will make it known to the whole world that we are true Romans and their descendants, and our name will never die and we will make proud the memories of our parents." ~ Despot Voda 1561

"The emperor Trajan, after conquering this country, divided it among his soldiers and made it into a Roman colony, so that these Romanians are descendants, as it is said, of these ancient colonists, and they preserve the name of the Romans." ~ 1532, Francesco della Valle Secretary of Aloisio Gritti, a natural son to Doge

ıts "Tozkoparan Iskender" ın the year 1550, Istanbul. `1281,5`gez=846 meters(1gez =0.66 m). here is his stone/isncription, writing the name, year and distance on it, to honour iskender..

6- Distances of over 800 m have been reached in flight archery.

The flight records are very well-documented. According to Islamic rules the record was only valid when the shot had been witnessed by a minimum of four persons. Each shooting range or “menzil” was indicated by two stones, one “foot stone” erected at the spot where the archer stands and a “main stone” for indicating the direction of the shot. In any attempt these witnesses who were employees of the Okmeidan had to be present. The distances achieved were not only recorded to Tekke’s Registration Book but monumental stones were also erected for the remembrance and declaration of them.
    Tozkoparan Iskender 1281.5 gez (845,79 m)
    Mîr-i Alem Ahmed Ağa 1271,5 gez (839,18 m)
    Bursalı Şűca 1243,5 gez (820,71 m)
    Tozkoparan Iskender 1279 gez (844,14 m)
    Parpol Hüseyin Efendi 1207 gez (796,62 m)
    Çullu Ferruh 1223 gez (807,18 m)
    Lenduha Cafer 1209,5 gez (798,27 m)
    Sultan II. Mahmud 1228 gez (810,48 m), 1225 gez (808,5 m), 1219 gez (804,54 m)

Box: Some 800+ m shots achieved by Turkish kemankeş.

"Surely Allah enjoins to do justice and to adopt good behavior and to give help to relatives-neighours(whoever you can reach), and forbids shameful acts, evil deeds and oppressive attitude. He exhorts you, so that you may be mindful." Qur'an; 16:90 (this is the verse that is recited every friday in sermons during the Friday Prayer rituals)

Grozer bows are not bad, although mostly known for making fairly cheap replicas of reflex bows. You can also commision a nice tasty bow Csaba will actually make by hand and those are on the par with Saluki bows (if a bit more expensive). I prefer Saluki, but it's just a personal choice (I shoot index and there's less pinch on Salukis).

As for the 508m record - bow technique is one thing, what you really need is strength of a demi-god. Let's face it, to shoot in excess of 400 yards you'll need what, a 140 - 150lb bow? At least. That's like lifting a 50 kilo bag of cement with one hand... To shoot past 500 yards you would need a full time masseuse and weeks of hard work for a few hours every day + a really mean old bow.

Archery has been celebrated throughout the ages in many cultures since 1226: Welsh and English, Chinese, Japanese, Mughal - all those cultures produced exceptional archery skills. But to shoot that far you just need impossible physical ability.

No one can bet Turkish bows for distance shooting. Look/search for "Turkish bow" at net.

but the arrows were specially designed for long distance shoot(the records i ve posted above) rather than for war(ex. armor piercing).

Because of that, I wrote "for distance shooting". Of course it needs special arrows. Like for whistling you need special arrows.
