    Default Speed up router?

    Hey all

Right now I'm on my ground floor pc, and my router is on the 3rd floor (I have 3 floors, not 4), and I have a slower connection than the pc upstairs hooked up with an ethernet cable. Speedtest.net says it can get about 2.5 mbps, while I can only get about .9 or 1 mbps. What's up with that? I mean, I know ethernet is faster than a wireless connection, but it shouldn't be that much of a difference...

    ?
    Thanks for any help. iPwntUrMum

Take Weird Al's advice and 'wax your modem to make it go faster'.

    What 802.11 spec if your router? A, B, G, N?

    ...
    And its G, a linksys WRT54GS
How is your upload faster then your download? How fast is your upload on the PC upstairs?

I'm thinking something was downloading while you took that speed test, which is why your download is slower then usual.
This connection is rather unreliable, its a shortwave connection (I have a transiever antenna that hooks up to a larger antenna, that's all I know). So usually the upload isn't faster, it just happened to be during the time I took that test
What connection quality is your computer reporting? If you're further away and there are more obstacles, more data will get garbled in transit and will have to be resent. Or else more bandwidth needs to be devoted to error correction. Either way, you get a slower connection. You can get a Wi-Fi repeater if it's a problem.
When I go to Windows Network and Sharing Center, it says very good. Also, there is two levels of floor between the router and my computer, but not much furniture. And about your repeater, I have a WRT54G running DD-WRT, except I don't know how to enable it to repeat..

    Here's a current test:
